Man’s death during a choke hold by New York City officers.

July 19, 2014 By Cristopher Hall Leave a Comment

The death of a man is reported, who lives in New York City, when he was being interrogated by the police officers. He was a national of Saten Island. This incident has caused rage among the people who belong to that community. As stated by a witness, police was questioning Eric Garner, 43 years old an asthma patient, as a possibility of his involvement in the deals of illegal cigarettes. Garner was continuously asking the police officials to leave him alone when a heat up argument begins. According to police he refused to go along with the police therefore, they choke hold him from back for a long time despite the fact that Garner was constantly requesting them to loosen the grip.

De blasio and Police Commissioner William Bratton arranged a press conference for the sake of answering all the questions related to this matter. They stated this incident as a terrible tragedy and told the news reporter that the saddest part is that Garner was the father of 6 married children and has two grand children. They accepted the fact that choke-holds are not allowed in the New York City police department therefore police will also investigate their own department. In the press meeting they talked about the video tape which captured the entire event. The worst part is that police officers hit his head hard at the time when Garner was saying that he could not breathe. Later on they called the paramedics but in vain.

People considered this issue as another incident of racial discrimination since Garner was a black man and the officers were white.

Computer outage caused significant discomfort to Allegiant passengers across the country

July 19, 2014 By Cristopher Hall Leave a Comment

Passengers traveling from Allegiant Airlines on Friday morning, July 18th were devastated as some form of malfunction in the computer check-in system of the airline caused delays and long queues.
According to an Allegiant spokesperson the airline had diagnosed the problem at 5.25 am local time and it took till 7.30 to fix it however by that time the damage had already set in.

According to an airport spokesperson Christine Crews at McCarran International Airport, lines at the Allegiant ticket counter saw an “incredible increase”. The delays were apparently not only restricted to McCarran International Airport, reports suggest delays in other airports as well including the Orlando Sanford International Airport.Allegiant’s website shows 112 complaints from the time of the fault to 9.30 am. The website was also down for most of the outage but steps have been taken to fix it since. Five Allegiant flights departing from Las Vegas were delayed as of 9.30 am, at least that’s what the McCarran website showed. Lines and delays have since died down, however it is not yet known how many customers and flights were affected in total or what actually caused the outage.

The shocking incident occurred at 11p.m on Saturday at an annual Element 11 festival which took place in Grantsville.
Element 11 is a non-profit organization which aims to ignite a culture of creativity and self-expression. It seems to be a counter culture community which claims to see art in all ways and in all people.

J.P. Bernier, a spokesman for Element 11 informed the Deseret News that there was no negligence or malpractice on part of anyone from the organization or otherwise. “He was very fast; he was very motivated.” he said. Regardless, firefighters tried to somehow douse the flames but remained unsuccessful.

Lt Steve Barrett from Grantsville police said that Christopher Wallace had informed some of attendees of what he intended to do. Furthermore, there seems to be reports that suggest that any form of drugs or alcohol were involved. Relatives of Wallace could not be reached on Monday.

Decrement in Gas Prices

July 15, 2014 By Cristopher Hall Leave a Comment

New Hampshire has witnessed falling gas prices, in fact prices have fallen 1.3 cents per gallon in the past week. Gasbuddy.com showed the average gas prices on Monday to be $3.65. Even more interesting is the fact that this is relatively higher than the national average whicdecrease-in-gas-pricesh seems to have fallen 3.7 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.61.
Even though these numbers appear to be encouraging let us see how much the prices have changed within the last year and the last month.
Gas prices in New Hampshire are actually 6 cents a gallon higher than they were last year and are also 3.6 cents per gallon higher than last month.
To further put things in perspective; average gas prices in Maine have fallen 2 cents per gallon in the last week and the average price of a gallon on Monday was $3.72 however that is 3.7 cents up from one month ago according to www.gasbuddy.com.

Also noteworthy is the fact that gas prices in Maine are 4.3 cents a gallon higher than they were last year.
This apparently hasn’t affected the national average, which seems to have decreased 4.3 cents per gallon in the last month or so and has defied change when compared to a year ago.

North America’s Salamander Population at Risk!

July 13, 2014 By Michael Turner Leave a Comment

Salamander are a number of species from the amphibian family that fall within the order Caudata. Recent reports from North America suggest that its largest Salamander, the eastern hellbender has been progressively decreasing.

The eastern hellbender is two feet long and is known to be the third largest salamander in the world. The numbers have been decreasing at such an alarming rate that the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service has started to consider placing the eastern hellbender salamander to the endangered list.

Even though scientists are uncertain as to the exact reason for the disappearance of these exotic amphibians it doesn’t require much contemplation to conclude that us humans might have something to do with it.

North America’s Salamander Population at Risk!

Many experts believe that the decrease in hellbender salamander population could have something to do with the unsafe rivers and streams which are the habitat of the animal.
The safety of the rivers and streams has been jeopardized mainly due to pollution and fungus. Construction projects including dams and the like also disrupt the water flow and interfere with the speeds of the rivers consequently making the water unappealing for the animals.

Rod Williams, an associate professor of herpetology from Purdue University who has also been tracking Indiana’s hellbenders for quite some time points out that these fascinating creatures live up to 30 years, so a substantial decrease in their population over a short time is indicative of problem with the water quality.
The Ozark hellbenders which are said to be a close relative of the eastern hellbenders have already been labeled as endangered and their numbers have decreased at an astounding rate.

Many researchers have tried to motivate people to help increase or at least sustain the current hellbender population by planting trees at the edges of the rivers which causes the water quality to improve. Perhaps that will lead to a decrease in the progressively declining hellbender population. However to avoid such incidents all together a conscious paradigm shift of the human race is required. We need to stop looking at nature as a combination of resources that we can control and start viewing it as an intricate, intelligent and unimaginably wise system in which each life form holds its own purpose.

Residents Prepare as Hawai Awaits Two Storms

July 6, 2014 By Nancy Young Leave a Comment

Hawai is more used to preparing for storms than actually getting one. In fact Hawai has only been hit by hurricanes three times since 1950, it has a much higher number for tropical cyclones though; 147. However this time Hurricane Isele is expected to make landfall later this week which could be followed by Tropical Storm Julio potentially making contact a few days later.

Its still not clear how damaging the storms could actually be but it doesn’t seem like Hawai is taking any chances. Stores are committed to re-stocking their bottled water, baby supplies and canned meat supply as soon as streams of shoppers fill their carts.

Scott Ankrom, assistant manager of the Costco said “Days like today, in a situation like this, we just throw open the doors and hold on for the ride.” The busy store has had to restock water continuously and sold as much water on Monday as it sold in all of last week.
Interestingly, in preparation, some people have chosen to vote early in the primary elections which are on Saturday.
