Antarctic’s Ice Loss Doubled – CryoSat-2 Satellite

May 20, 2014 By Cristopher Hall Leave a Comment

From CryoSat-2 Satellite, Scientist observed that Antarctic lose double of the ice as compared to the last year. Now 1600 Million tones of ices is losing y the Antarctic.

Ice loss is directly related to the sea levels and the loss of 1600 Million tons by Antarctic is enough to raise sea levels by 0.45 millimeters each year alone.

Antarctic’s Ice Loss Doubled

The very first complete assessment of Antarctic ice sheet elevation change is prepared by a team of scientist from UK Centre for Polar Observation and Modeling, led by researchers at the University of Leeds.

European Space Agency’s CryoSat-2 satellite mission was the resource from where they collected and used the measurements. A specially designed altimeter for this task was carried by the satellite.

According to the statistics, approximately 159 Giga tones ice lost in each year of 2010 and 2013.

West Antarctica lost 134 Giga tones of ice lost during 2010 and 2013.
East Antarctica three Giga tones of ice lost during 2010 and 2013.
Antarctic Peninsula 23 Giga tones of ice lost during 2010 and 2013.
According to the researchers, ice thinning has been detected In West Antarctica, in areas that were poorly surveyed by past satellite altimeter missions.

These unknown areas are now covered by Satellite and these newly-mapped areas contribute additional losses that bring altimeter observations closer to estimates based on other approaches.

Antarctic’s Ice Loss Doubled1

Lead author Dr Malcolm McMillan from the University of Leeds said, “We find that ice losses continue to be most pronounced along the fast-flowing ice streams of the Amundsen Sea sector, with thinning rates of between 4 and 8 metres per year near to the grounding lines of the Pine Island, Thwaites and Smith Glaciers.”

May 20, 2014 By Cristopher Hall Leave a Comment

The craziness of Chinese towards the tech world, specially their addiction of smart phones turned the China into the biggest mobile market of World over night. Xiaomi the standout local smart phone market leads the market segment overnight and sells more phones in China than Apple. “The Apple of China” is coined for the Xiaomi.

According to a research firm IDC, tablets haven’t quite taken off in China and Apple still led the market with a 28 percent share during the second quarter last year by selling just 1.48 million units, the 10% of all of Apple’s iPad sales during the period, according to the data compiled by Bloomberg.

Xiaomi at the very right time entering the tab’s market and unveiled its first tablet in Beijing yesterday. According to Mr. Jenny Lee, who is an early investor in Xiaomi and a Shanghai-based managing director at GGV Capital, “Chinese are starting to adopt tablets over PCs, particularly in offices. Xiaomi will have to chase Apple and Samsung, the market leaders in tablets globally and in China. That’s a race Xiaomi is all-too-familiar with”.

The Global ambitions of Xiaomi have not yet materialized and its success at home town China has not interpreted to other markets yet. Only 3% of Xiaomi’s sales are out of the China and rest of the Xiaomi’s smartphones have been sold in China. Hugo Barra, a vice president at Xiaomi responsible for international expansion stated that, “The new Mi Pad tablets will be available in China starting next month, and will eventually be offered in other markets, including Southeast Asia, India and Latin America”.

The doubts are not very big that Xiaomi could repeat its smartphone success in tablets.

According to FBI there are still many unknown cases that need to unearth and resolve for the sake of economy. In a press release FBI Director James B. Comey stated that, “For too long, the Chinese government has blatantly sought to use cyber espionage to obtain economic advantage for its state-owned industries. The indictment announced today is an important step. But there are many more victims, and there is much more to be done.”

For years the US Government and other chief security researchers have been tracking the plunders of Chinese hackers on U.S. companies. The re-owned Ugly Gorilla, famous for the invasions at hundreds of organizations in the last decade, is also found in the case of US companies.

The indictment included the five officers’ names, their unit, their photographs and the building in Shanghai where they worked. But there was little prospect of them ever being brought to justice in the U.S., officials said. Instead, the indictment seemed to be envisioned to send a message to Chinese leaders, who have deprived of that the People’s Liberation Army, is betrothed in economic spying and have challenged the U.S. to provide proof.

In response the Assistant Attorney General for National Security John Carlin said that, “Well today, we are providing proof. For the first time, we are exposing the faces and names behind the keyboards in Shanghai used to steal from American businesses”.

Carlin further said,” This indictment describes, with particularity, specific actions on specific days by specific actors to use their computers to steal information from across our economy,”

The Chinese officers identified as Wang Dong, Sun Kailiang, Wen Xinyu, Huang Zhenyu, and Gu Chunhui were officers in Unit 61398 of the Third Department of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army and wanted by FBI since long.

Truth Behind Google’s and LG’s Nexus 4 Smartphone

May 19, 2014 By Cristopher Hall Leave a Comment

If you were to ask many people what they think about Nexus 4 smartphone, they would say that it was the design of LG and they could be right on this one, since the device is manufactured by LG. However, its design belongs to Google and it counts as the latest release on the market from these developers while being solid competitors to HTC 1 and Samsung Galaxy S3.

nexus-lg-google
In fact, one can say that by the time this one was released it managed to top up its rivals through the following features:

* It presents hardware and software that you can solidly rely on. You have to agree that these two elements in a smartphone are very hard to bring them both to the same level of perfection. But Google and LG have managed to do this with their device. As a result you will find Nexus 4 with a power pack processor, a front camera with a high resolution, a functional design and a support from Google Play Store when you need to locate applications. Speaking of which, the majority of these apps are provided for free unlike their rivals.

* Another thing that makes Nexus 4 a smart release on the smartphone market, is the operating system – Jelly bean created for Android phones being equal to iOS 7 that belongs to Apple’s new products.

* You can find this device on the market sold for a cheaper price as compared to other smartphone devices. For instance, you can get it for as les as $350 which is definitely more affordable than others of its kind. However, many consumers are intrigued by its durability because it is manufactured from plastic unlike the other devices that come with aluminum or polycarbonate material. This can make it more prone to damages once it is dropped by accident. But with the many durable cases available in the market it shouldn’t be a problem.

* Another feature that can be enticing for smartphone users who need this device for a minimal use is the battery lifespan which in these situations can last for 18 days. But when you use internet and many apps, it will only last for 15 hours, so one can say that the battery life is average with Nexus 4.

The downside of this smartphone, let’s be fair on this one, is the secondary camera’s performance because it shoots pictures at 1.3 pixels while working with 5.25 Mbps as compared to others that shoot up to 12.5 Mbps.

According to Dr. Elsie Taveras, the lead author and chief of general pediatrics at the hospital, “Our study found convincing evidence that getting less than recommended amounts of sleep across early childhood is an independent and strong risk factor for obesity and adiposity. Contrary to some published studies, we did not find a particular ‘critical period’ for the influence of sleep duration on weight gain. Instead, insufficient sleep at any time in early childhood had adverse effects.”

Research To Group Meditation Technique-Wise

May 19, 2014 By Cristopher Hall Leave a Comment

The ancient technique of mind relaxes meditation. Each of us must go through or at least know any of the meditation technique that includes mindfulness, mantra, and guided meditation. It is an art of focus your mind 100% to one area. The practice comes with a countless well-publicized health benefits including increased decreased anxiety, concentration, and a feeling of happiness.

Meditiation

There are many meditation methods but according to a research of University of Oslo in Norway, all techniques can be group in two heads – Concentrative meditation and nondirective meditation.

Concentrative meditation:
As the name suggest, in this technique focus is on breathing or other particular thought that restrict the mind to wander here and there.

When subjects (on whom research is conducted) practiced concentrative meditation, their brain activity was nearly the same as when they were resting.

Nondirective meditation:
In this technique also the purpose is to focus whether on breathing or on a meditation sound but the difference from the Concentrative meditation technique is that in Non-directive meditation your mind could wander. Usually the modern meditation techniques fall in this category.

According to the research when participants practiced nondirective meditation, they had higher brain activity in areas connected with processing thoughts related to self and feelings than when they were resting.

meditiation2

How the mind actually works and responds during meditation is still unknown and the team is working on it.

According to Davanger, “These findings suggest that nondirective meditation allows for more room to process memories and emotions than during concentrated meditation”.
