Gamers Can Play as Women Soccer Players in FIFA 16

May 29, 2015 By Karen Jackson Leave a Comment

FIFA 2016 will feature women soccer players

FIFA 2016 will feature women soccer players for the first time in the series’ history!

You could play the licensed WNBA title from 2k Games, but EA knows how to make a proper soccer simulator. FIFA’s only challenger at the moment is Pro Evolution Soccer, also known as PES, but its latest release disappoints.

Gamers will be able to play as one of the 12 international teams such as Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Sweden, and the United States of America.

IGN managed to catch up, and talk with FIFA VP and GM David Rutter about what triggered this addition to the franchise – ” We’ve been chatting about it in the game team for a couple of years now. As you may or may not know, there’s been petitions to have women put into the game, and I’m lucky enough to be the father of two amazing little girls, and both of them play FIFA a lot. They consistently pester me [about] why they can’t play as women.”

FIFA 2016 will feature women soccer players

Rutter also states that this isn’t about just creating in-game skins that represent women. The game team has been hard at work building models that would exactly represent how women soccer players act – from running down the field, to celebration animations.

” We’ve flown our head capture team around the world to capture the faces and the heads of the athletes, [and] they’ve been treated in exactly the same way as Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City. We rebuilt the animation rig to support the different dimensions and proportions of a woman’s body […] and then applied that motion capture skeleton to those very believable bodies to make sure that the standing, walking, jogging, sprinting, passing, shooting, is actually women animation rather than male animation.” David Rutter also states.

Women soccer players have visited EA’s Vancouver studio to help the dev team build the new locomotion system for women which includes walking patterns, runs, sprints, and of course horizontal movement. Sydney Leroux, Abby Wambach, Alex Morgan, and Megan Rapinoe from the Canadian, and United States soccer team are amongst the women who were a part of the development process.

” We were incredibly lucky to have the US national team on site in Vancouver for a day. Hanging out with them, chatting to them, playing the game with them […] getting their feedback was incredibly useful to course-correct on a couple of things.” said the FIFA VP.

FIFA 2016 will feature women soccer players

Unfortunately, this awesome news is being ignored by the fact that FIFA faces fraud allegations – some even say that FIFA is corrupt to the bone. I’m not telling you to ignore it, I’m just hoping you spread the word so everybody knows that women can also play soccer in this male dominated sport.

FIFA 2016 will launch on the 22nd of September on PC, Playstation 3 and 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

VR-ready PC for Oculus Rift Will Cost About $1000!

May 28, 2015 By Karen Jackson Leave a Comment

Oculus Rift device

Oculus Rift will begin to ship sometime in early 2016. This means that you have all the time in the world to upgrade your PC so it can run the VR toy.

Oculus Rift CEO Brendan Iribe has been reported of saying at the Re/code conference that – ” We are looking at an all-in price, if you have to go out and actually need to buy a new computer and you’re going to buy the Rift… at most you should be in that $1,500 range.”

This isn’t bad to be honest.

Previous Oculus Rift development kits have been priced at $350 – we don’t expect it to go any higher than $400; so a $1000 PC rig sounds more than decent.

These are the technical specifications that you need to base your new PC on.

  • NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater
  • Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
  • 8GB+ RAM
  • Windows 7 SP1 or newer
  • 2x USB 3.0 ports
  • HDMI 1.3 video output supporting a 297MHz clock via a direct output architecture

With time, we expect those pieces of hardware to drop their price, and you can bet your hiney that in 2016 you’ll pay less than the $1000 mentioned cost.

Oculus Rift device

Oculus Rift Chieft Architect Atman Binstock has said earlier this month that these specifications will apply for the entirety of the product’s life span, and consumers shouldn’t worry that besides upgrading their VR gear, they should also upgrade their PC. It is unknown at the moment if Oculus Rift owners will have to upgrade their device’s components with time.

It’s all in a mist at this point – nothing is clear. We truly hope that these are the specifications, and that the price is cemented, but who really knows?!

Can Oculus Rift deliver?

What we do know is that Oculus Rift is trying to gain the lead. The company has recently bought a firm that reconstructs 3D scenes in real time – Surreal Vision. It sure comes in handy when big daddy Facebook opens its pockets. Their official blog post reads – ” Great scene reconstruction will enable a new level of presence and telepresence, allowing you to move around the real world and interact with real-world objects from within VR.” Sure Oculus, buy everything you can – just release a proper product.

Oculus Rift device

I’m no that sceptical, and I’m not that optimistic either. When it comes to jumping on the hype-train I rather remain suspicious on where we’re going, and how long the trip will last. At this point, we’re seeing so much news regarding virtual reality. It seems like every big industry behemoth has a virtual reality gear in the makings.

“We’re developing breakthrough techniques to capture, interpret, manage, analyse, and finally reproject in real-time a model of reality back to the user in a way that feels real, creating a new, mixed reality that brings together the virtual and real worlds.” it concludes the blog post.

And I proclaim myself the king of Sweden. Big expectations Oculus Rift, really big expectations.

Can the Facebook-owned VR company deliver? Or we’re being grotesquely lied to?

Soon You’ll Be Able to Buy Directly From YouTube Ads

May 22, 2015 By Karen Jackson Leave a Comment

YouTube Ads

In a tactic that will most likely increased YouTube’s revenue, the user will be able to buy, in the near future, directly from YouTube ads.

Earlier this week we heard some rumours about how Google wants to let users buy directly from in-search-engine ads, and this new tactic to increase profits from YouTube doesn’t shock us one bite.

If you think about it, YouTube has zero profits – it’s only revenue comes from pre-rolled advertisements, but that’s on Google’s back too. It’s quite mind boggling how they make money considering the fact that Ad Blocker is free, and the majority of internet users intstall it in their browsers.

If you are one of the few courages individuals that watch those 5 second, or more, agonizing ads that YouTube shoves down on our throats, I can only applaud you – and then laugh in your face.

YouTube Ads

I don’t think anyone has ever bought something from those pre-roll YouTube ads, so I went out and tested if you can impulse-buy something from them.

While trying to watch an Adventure Time sneak peak, an add for water guns rolled. Hmmm, nice touch, great algorithms, but then I tried to watch some gameplay footage from The Witcher 3, and an add about haemorrhoids popped – yikes, YouTube pairs gamers who are constantly sitting down with haemorrhoids. Actually , that isn’t a bad assumption, but still.

“Whether it’s watching a product review or learning how to bake a soufflé, we look to video in countless moments throughout the day to help us get things done. We call these micro-moments — when we reflexively turn to our devices to learn more, make a decision, or purchase a product.” Google says in a blog post.

YouTube Ads

I mean, sure, but, wait, what? No Google, when I learn how to bake a muffin, I don’t want to buy stuff from your pre-rolled ads, I just want to learn to make the damn thing. Stop making videos shoppable happen, it ain’t gonna’ happen – boy, I’ll eat my shoe if it does.

Rockstar Games Sues BBC Over GTA Drama

May 22, 2015 By Karen Jackson Leave a Comment

Rockstar Games Sues BBC

A while back we wrote about how BCC wants to create a new drama that revolves around Rockstar Games – with Daniel Radcliffe staring in it.

Daniel Radcliffe will soon be Daniel Sadcliffe, because Rockstar Games is suing BBC over their Game Changer TV show that tells the story of how the company battled a crazy lawyer that wanted to shut them down.

Take-Two Interactive, who is the parent company of Rockstar Games, has filled a trademark infringement suit against BBC, because ” Rockstar Games has had no involvement with this project. Our goal is to ensure that our trademarks are not misused in the BBC’s pursuit of an unofficial depiction of purported events related to Rockstar Games. We have attempted multiple times to resolve this matter with the BBC without any meaningful resolution. It is our obligation to protect our intellectual property and unfortunately in this case litigation was necessary.” “ said Take-Two in a statement to Polygon.

Rockstar Games Sues BBC

Welp, I was about to bash the studio for not letting BBC make the TV show, but when you put it like that the broadcaster deserves what’s coming.

BBC responded to the statement by confirming that Daniel Radcliffe will play Sam Houser and Bill Paxton will play Jack Thompson. I think they are playing with fire over here.

Game Changer is based on David Kushner’s book about the Grand Theft Auto history called Jacked.

Rockstar Games Sues BBC

Filming has begun in April, and there is no official release date, but rumours have it that the TV show will be released sometime this Autumn – that is, if they win the case, or somehow strike a dealing with Take-Two Interactive.

It’s highly probable that it’s a case about money – someone wants more money, while the other doesn’t want to give said money.

I know I’ll tune in to watch the première because a) I love BBC b) I love Rockstar Games, and c) Daniel Sadcliffe played a huge part in my childhood!

YotaPhone 2 Review

May 20, 2015 By Karen Jackson Leave a Comment

The YotaPhone 2

The YotaPhone 2 is available for pre-order in the US – finally!

But is it worth it? It’s kinda expensive, and there are other smartphones on the market that could satisfy your tech needs. But before you settle on something, let’s talk about the yota smartphone, and see if it suits you.

The YotaPhone 2 is one of the coolest smartphones on the market at this moment, and guess what? It has two displays. It boggles the mind at first, but when you understand how it actually works it doesn’t seem that confusing. The partnership, the marriage if you will, between E Ink, and LCD had me intrigued since I first heard of it back in 2014, and the dual-screen is an engineering marvel.

The Yoda Phone, oups, the Yota Device sports a beautiful, crips and fresh design, top-shelf specs, and a top-notch display.

The first time I put my hands on a Yota Device was way back in 2014, and I fell in love with it – it felt different back then, and its new iteration feels quite exquisite. A bigger display, higher resolution, and that E Ink screen are garnering cool points from me, but it may not be for everyone. Here’s why.

The Yota Phone

The YotaPhone 2

We are going to start with its design, but keep in mind that it hasn’t changed since its first installment, and I really can’t say anything else about it that you don’t already know. Just by gazing at a couple of pictures you have it all figured out – it actually looks almost like a Nexus S. The E Ink panel is behind, and the tight-held display is still the same, but when you take a look at its hardware, at the Yota tech inside, you’ll witness some major changes.

The sturdy device isn’t waterproof, nor it is completely made out of metal or anodized aluminium, but it’s still premium quality build. The glass-fiber reinforced plastic is more than enough – well, unless you plan on murdering someone with your smartphone, and both of you making it alive out of the whole ordeal, then no, it’s not enough.

Gorilla Corning Glass 3 protects the device from unwanted accidents – it spans the entire front and back of the handset, thus making the device really hard to bend.

Around the plastic band you’ll notice the smartphone’s ports, and of course buttons.

  • On top

The headphone jack

  • On bottom

The micro-USB port is surrounded by a grille loudspeaker.

  • On the right side

The power button, and the volume rocker – which is actually a nano-Sim tray too.

Display and Yota Tech

The YotaPhone 2

The YotaPhone 2 weighs about 145 grams, and its size of 144 x 69.5 x 8.9 mm perfectly encompasses a 5-inch display – although, it seems a little bigger when you compare it a your average 5-inch display smartphone. It looks a little bit bloated but you won’t even care, because you’ll be wondering how did they manage to build two displays, a 2,500 mAh battery, and wireless charging into it.

Now if you turn it over, like an abnormal human being, you’ll see the E Ink display. Now, it may not be really that comfortable using the secondary display, because you’ll constantly feel the other one on your palm, but it seriously depends on what kind of a person you are – if you’re like me then you’ll have a problem with this, if you’re like my roommate Mark, then you’ll absolutely love this. I don’t understand people.

It won’t stop you from using it for an extended period of time, but you’ll definitely feel the sharp edges – maybe a block form would have been more welcome to this type of a device.

Also, you don’t need to worry about scratching your primary display with whatever rings, or jewellery you’re wearing – I fully trust Corning Gorilla Glass 3 to protect my device even when I’m dropping my smartphone on spikes. Corning Gorilla Glass 4 is dubbed a Klutz’s best friend.

The YotaPhone 2

Now, a question for every smartphone lover. If you have two displays, on what side do you put your smartphone down? The E Ink one, or on its primary display?

It really doesn’t matter, because like I said before, it features CGG 3 – but if you’re feeling really paranoiac get the bumper case accessory. More so if you think of yourself of being too much of a clumsy man.

I’ve gotten some strange looks from people in the subway while using the E Ink side – people will think you’re crazy when you switch to the back of your phone and start meddling with it.

The YotaPhone 2 has grown a little bit since its first iteration. The 4.2-inch, 720p display has become a 5-inch, 1080p display, and at 442 ppi it’s one gorgeous device. The new installment has an AMOLED display – and they are known for their quality. It can output deep black, and vibrant colours, crisp and sharp images. I’ve even found the viewing angles to be perfect – I can say that I have never used a more polished smartphone in my entire life.

If you plan on gazing down on your smartphone on a sunny day you shouldn’t be worried, because readability is good, and the auto-brightness doesn’t fidget like other so-called flagship devices – I’m looking at you iPhone 6.

The YotaPhone 2

The E Ink display is also a little bigger than the previous launched yota phone – it stands at 4.7 inches, a resolution of 960×540, and at 235 ppi is more than a second-gen Kindle Paperwhite can output. But that’s not the greatest thing about the E Ink display – it now supports multi-touch.

It sounds really great, but I’ve found a problem that would seriously bug the living hell out of you. Well, both screens can’t be active at the same time – no problem, you may say; but you can unlock the second E Ink screen by accident – and this accident has a repro rate of 5/5.

How come?

Android has a built-in feature that allows you to unlock the second display using only three fingers, and since everyone holds their smartphones with their thumb, and three fingers, this may be a nuisance. While using your primary display, you may unlock the secondary one thus locking the first. The built-in Android feature can be disabled easily from settings, and I highly recommend you doing so.

I must warn you that if you perform a dragging gesture on the E Ink display you’ll encounter the same problem, but in order for you to perform the correct gesture you’ll need a high dose of bad luck. It’s really infrequent.

Yota Camera

The YotaPhone 2

I’m a little bit disappointed how the camera works. Its front facing camera that is primary used for video calls, and selfies has changed for the better. From the 1 megapixel camera it has grown to a 2.1 megapixel selfie maker. Unfortunately I can’t say the same about the primary camera. It has actually been downgraded from 13 megapixels to 8 measly ones. It’s already a really expensive smartphone, and this is probably the reason why they reduced the camera’s capability – although, I don’t agree with their decision.

It’s not that it outputs horrible quality, it’s actually decent, but that’s the whole problem. When you’re paying so much money for a high-end device you expect it to be great in every way.

The quality of the images taken are great for Facebook or if you want to share something with your friends via WhatsApp, but don’t expect to win photographer of the year award with Yota.

It comes with the standard Android camera app, but almost everyone installs a different app almost immediately.

Yota Software

The YotaPhone 2

YotaPhone 2 comes with 4.4.3 Kitkat, but you can update your device to 5.0 Lollipop.

There isn’t that much bloatware on your device – you got all the Android basic apps –  two browsers, a music player, an office suite, a multilingual dictionary, or translator, and a non-removable Russian e-book service. You can ignore all of them, as they don’t clog up your smartphone, nor do they suck-dry the RAM from it.

One of the problems that I had with the YotaPhone’s first iteration was that the software wasn’t really that usable on the second E Ink screen, thus making it quite useless. They seem to have learned from their past mistakes, and the first time you launch your device you are prompted to a tutorial that teaches you all about the secondary display – how to properly use it, and how to take full advantage out of it.

The walktrough doesn’t last more than a couple of minutes, and in no-time you’ll flip back and forth like a bad-ass Jedi master!

Yota Mirror

The YotaPhone 2

This is why you should buy a Yota Phone. With one push of a button, you can translate the fully functional Android on your primary screen to your E Ink secondary display – simply just push the homey key on your primary display, and drag your thumb to the left, where the YotaMirror icon is located.

It’s a selling point for the device. The refresh rate can withstand almost anything you challenge it to, but be careful if, and when you want to watch videos – it will actually drain the phone’s battery faster.

You’re not buying the E Ink display for gaming, or clips, you’re buying it because it offers the possibility of reading books, articles, and surfing the web without draining your battery dry.

I basically use it for reading, and selecting tracks from my music player, or Spotify.

Yota Performance and Battery Life

The YotaPhone 2

Your high-end device sports a quad-core 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 800 chip, 2 GB of RAM, and 32 GB of on-board storage – unfortunately you don’t have the possibility of adding more storage, because that’s the maximum you can get, and there is no micro-SD card slot.

You’ll have no problems running everything that’s currently on the app store.

Yota is of course 4G, and it sports the usual features dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, GPS and GLONASS.

When talking about the YotaPhone 2’s battery life you should know that it isn’t what you were expecting. It’s really great, but don’t let the E Ink display fool you. It lasted me about 2 whole days, and I used the device constantly, but there’s a huge difference in terms of battery-life if you only use the AMOLED primary display. A day’s worth of battery isn’t that bad, but it ain’t great either.

Yota’s Competition

YotaPhone 2 Competitors

The handset is available in almost all of the European Countries, and the Middle East. Now you can even pre-order it if you reside in the US. It costs about $850 depending where you’re buying the device from.

In this price range I can recommend the iPhone 6, and the Galaxy S6 – they are almost $850.

There aren’t that many contenders that offer the same capabilities that the YotaPhone 2 offers.

Conclusion

The YotaPhone 2

It’s really one of the best phones around, and the Yota smartphone, the Yota phone, the Yota mobile or simply Yoda –  whatever you want to call it; is quite a nice addition to your arsenal. I highly recommend it.

  • Pros

– Beautiful dual-screen

– Top notch E Ink screen

– Top-shelf performance

– Great battery

  • Cons

– Quite expensive

– Mediocre camera

– It’s uncomfortable when using the secondary display

Nikon Built a Doggy Camera

May 19, 2015 By Karen Jackson Leave a Comment

Nikon built a doggy camera

Who said dogs can’t be photographers, or is it pho-dog-graphers? Nikon developed a doggy camera with a built-in heart monitor. It pays attention to the pet’s heartbeat and once it sky rockets it takes a photo.

Dogs are curious little creatures, and they get excited super easy, so Nikon built their new camera with this in mind. Whether it is getting a treat, sniffing other doggy butts, or just meeting a new pet friend, you’ll have a library full of doggy experiences to gaze at.

Nikon’s Heartography mechanism will capture every emotion your buddy sees on a daily basis. Heartography consists of two parts:

a) the elastic heart-monitoring band

and

b) the SmartCase for the camera.

It’s no rocket science, and Nikon isn’t the first ones to build this kind of thing, but by God, their promo video looks super adorable.

Meet Grizzler, the first canine photographer that will melt your heart!

Now, it doesn’t seem to be a consumer product, because I haven’t seen it being sold anywhere on this planet, and if you go to their official website you don’t get any pricing information, nor when it will be available. It looks tons of fun, and I’ll most likely buy it for my Akita-Inu – his name is Vadim.

But a couple of lines ago I hinted that Nikon weren’t the only ones in the doggy camera business. Until we figure out when they’ll be planning on selling their product, you might want to take a look at what GoPro has.

GoPro’s Fetch is basically a glorified harness. You can attach your GoPro camera to your doggy’s back, or belly – doesn’t matter if your furry friend weighs 15 pounds or 120, because the Fetch is universal. It has padded material, and a tether to help prevent losing your camera when your dog goes on a wild spree of sniffing, and pooping on everything he sees.

This one is available, and it’s only $70.

Ultra HD Blu-Ray Discs are an Alternative to 4k Streaming

May 15, 2015 By Karen Jackson Leave a Comment

The new Blu-Ray format will be available at the end of the year

Ultra HD Blu-Ray Discs are not a thing to miss. We know that we live in the cloud and streaming era, and physical media is kinda getting the boot, but if you’re taking a stance against Blu-Ray in general then you’ll miss out on one of the greatest, if not the only, alternatives to 4k streaming.

The BDA – Bluray-Disc Association, announced this week that they have finally finished the new Ultra HD Blu-Ray format.

The new format will be able to output 4k resolutions of 3840×2160, while at the same time offering HDR – high dynamic range, and high frame rate content- most likely up to 60fps. This sounds really great considering that physical media is something of the past. We either buy our software, games, movies, or songs from their digital stores, or we stream them. But is it enough for consumers to shift their positions back to discs? Has that ship sailed already?

The BDA is hoping that the ship is still in port – although, I highly doubt it.

Licensing will begin this summer, and backward-compatible Ultra HD Blu-ray players will hit the street sometime at the end of this year. They’re hoping to jump on the X-mas bandwagon. It’s probably a great idea – I wouldn’t mind if I get a player as a gift for the holidays, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to save up money to buy one. As a matter of fact, I wouldn’t buy one even if I had all the funds necessary.

Ultra HD Blu-Ray Discs logo

Victor Matsuda, which is the chair of the BDA’s promotions committee has stated that the new Ultra HD format is consistent, and the movie experience is repeatable. Is Victor hinting that we can’t get this kind of quality anywhere else? Because I know for sure that you can watch 4k movies on Netflix, YouTube and Amazon, and I can do so on any rig, regardless if I have an Ultra HD player, or not.

The storage, or UHD will hold up to 66GB of data on dual-layer discs, and 100GB on triple-layer discs. You can’t possibly hope to download that much of data in a day, or two, and it will probably strike a chord with those who have horrible internet connections.

But the trend is changing, and better internet connections, and higher bandwidths are becoming more and more popular – not because Comcast wants it, but because consumers are sick and tired of being treated like the scum of the Earth.

We’ll see at the end of this year if the BDA  has bet on the right horse, or it has lost all of its plausibility.

How to Transfer Files From Your PC to Your Windows Tablet!

May 11, 2015 By Karen Jackson Leave a Comment

Transfer Files through Cloud

Whether it is your latest mixtape, or those sweet Summer pictures, everyone wants to be able to transfer files from their Windows PC to their Windows tablet, and vice-versa. The faster the better, but you wouldn’t want to lose data on the way so you’re looking for something stable too.

Don’t know how? You’ve come to the right place. Via USB or Cloud, we have a couple of options for you!

OTG Cable With USB to Micro-USB

Transfer Files with an OnTheGo Cable

The most common way is by connecting the two devices through a USB to Micro-USB OnTheGo Cable. It’s no rocket science – plug it in and your Windows PC will prompt you whether you want to open the new device that has been paired with, or not. From then on you have access to your tablet – as in, you can paste anything you want on your Windows-based device: songs, pictures, movies, and even wallpapers.

Amazon has some affordable, and reliable cables for sale:

  • Option 1

– Price $7

– Compatible with Samsung, HTC, Asus, and OTG devices

  • Option 2

– Price $7

– Compatible with all OTG devices

  • Option 3

– Price $2

– Compatible with all OTG devices

Through Cloud

Now, this alternative may seem a little bit tricky, but in reality it’s super easy to use.

  • OneDrive

Transfer Files via Cloud

OneDrive is a file hosting service that allows its users to upload and sync files to any device that can run OneDrive. We’re talking about Windows-based devices here so there’s no need to clarify this issues.

OneDrive offers up to 15 GB free for new users, and once you’ve installed the software on your preferred devices you can synch photos, music, movies, and other personal information. You’ll always have them on the cloud. Let’s say you buy a new Windows-based tablet, and you want to get all of your memories from your old rusty PC before it breathes its last. Just install OneDrive on your new device, log into your account and voilà – the magic is done!

Additional storage can be bought:

– 100 GB for $2 a month

– 200 GB for $4 a month

– 1 TB for $8 a month

  • DropBox

Transfer Files via Cloud

It works exactly like OneDrive, and you can install it on any device you want – even if it doesn’t have a Windows OS.

It offers free 2 GB storage – not much if you ask me, but it’s a way to transfer files.

– 1 TB for $12 a month

You can also select the DropBox for Business option. For $14 a month per user, you can get all the storage space you desire, file recovery, and unlimited support.

  • Google Drive

Transfer Files via Cloud

My favourite way to transfer files is by Google Drive. I already have a Google account paired with Gmail, YouTube, and now Drive.

It offers free 15 GB of storage for everything you want – and you can set it to back-up what files you need to be kept safe, and out of reach.

– 100 GB for $1,99 a month

– 1 TB for $9,99 a month

– 10 TB for $99,99 a month

– 20 TB for $199,99 a month

– 30 TB for $299,99 a month

These are the best options. I’ve used them, and I was happy with the services provided. If you have any other app, cable model, or even method, please tell us in the comments section below.

Every day you learn something new!

GameStop is Buying and Selling Retro Game Consoles

April 24, 2015 By Karen Jackson Leave a Comment

GameStop Retail Shop

Great news for retro game fans. GameStop is, once again, buying and selling retro game consoles, and of course games and accessories. PlayStation 1, Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System and Sega Genesis – buying these will be a blast from the past for sure.

This program will commence in 2 markets in the USA –  New York City and Birmingham, Alabama. Over 250 stores will take up on this pilot program, starting with the 25th of April.

A GameStop spokeperson has been reported saying through IGN that the video game retailer will start to accept consoles, games and accessories of the retro kind all the way back to the NES.

The same spokeperson has also stated that if the program is a huge success it will make its mark in all of the company’s retail stores across the United States within a year’s time.

GameStop Consoles

Besides the aforementioned list of consoles that will be available through the company’s retail stores, clients will also find the Nintendo 64 and the Sega Dreamcast. This highly praised program has the goal in bringing more titles for clients to buy, or sell – passing the 5,000 mark is considered reaching said goal.

” We will bring all of the product back through the Refurbishment Operations Center for inspection, testing and repair. Time to build up a good assortment for retro games fans to select from when shopping.”, GameStop’s spokeperson has told IGN.

It is noted that from the time the company accepts trades from its clients, to the time the store will actual sell retro consoles, and games it will take 2 months. The allocated time is more than sufficient for GameStop to check the trades, repair them and put them on sale so a gamer can garner a huge collection of vintage goodies.

If you’re planning on going to a GameStop retail store some time in the near future with the intent of trying out consoles, or buying them directly then, you’ll be disappointed. Purchases of retro games, consoles and accesories can only be made through GameStop’s website or through the web-in-store system of the company.

Retro devices will have a standard warranty – the same one that all refurbished and used consoles come with if you choose the company’s services.

Be prepared to scout the official website in about 2 months time for that Battletoads cartridge that you were dying to get.

The Little Rolling Robot From the First Star Wars Trailer is Real!

April 21, 2015 By Karen Jackson Leave a Comment

Star Wars Rolling Robot

You definitely remember the little rolling robot that resembles a soccer ball, don’t you? If you don’t recall it, let me refresh your memory – it’s already fast forwarded to the :30 mark; or you can just watch the whole Star Wars: The Force Awakens official teaser trailer.

Somewhat astonishing that J.J. Abrams, the man in charge with directing and co-producing the next installment in the epic space opera franchise, has not used CGI for this little cute robot named BB-8 Droid – instead they built it!

Don’t believe me? Take a look here. It looks a lot more derpier than the trailer, and I was gripping my fists the whole time the little droid was moving – it gives this false sensation that its head is going to fall down. It was officially unveiled as a real robot at the Star Wars Celebration event. It’s a real robot as R2 D2 is. Clearly, someone behind the scenes is controlling the BB-8 Droid; but hey, at least there’s no Kenny Baker inside actually moving it.

” Neil Scanlan and his incredible team… built and puppeteered BB-8 in the movie, and did an extraordinary job. It was better for the actors, better for the film itself — you’ll see their work. It was amazing.”, said director J.J. Abrams.

BB-8 with R2 D2

Some of us die hard Star Wars geeks won’t be waiting just for the movie to hit cinemas, but also for behind the scenes footage – my curiosity is reaching critical levels just thinking about this.

It’s more than obvious that it will sell like warm bread – not just the movie, but merchandise portraying the new Droid face of Star Wars. But before you go out and spend a gazilion dollars on toys, pillow cases, probably even undies, keep in mind that you can build your very own BB-8 Droid!

Christian Poulsen is an industrial engineer student, and also a Star Wars aficionado, that managed to build, in his very own home, the little robot. A video is available for you to be aww struck.

As a real Victor Frankenstein, Christian got the carcass of a remote-controlled robot ball toy, which one can control through a smartphone, reshaped it, meddled a little bit with its internal circuitry, and presto!

As a little farewell gift, I’ll leave with you the latest trailer of Star Wars: The Force Awakens!

Are you going to tune in at your local cinemas on December the 18th? Or you think it’s going to have the same faith as the last trilogy?
