Jealousy in Dogs – What’s the Real Score Here

July 24, 2014 By Michael Turner Leave a Comment

Are dogs really that jealous like what humans do with their loved ones or romantic mate? A recent study in the PLOS ONE journal conducted by the researchers at the University of California San Diego showed that dogs, like humans, exhibit jealous behaviors and other obvious acts associated to jealousy with rival dogs.

Performing the Case Study Shows a Wonderful Process with Awesome Results During actual study, the volunteer dog owners were individually given a plastic jack-o-lantern pail, a stuffed dog that barks, whine and wags, and a children’s book in musical pop-up style. The dog owners were asked to ignore the presence of their pets while treating the pail and the stuffed dog as their own precious Fido pet. They even pretended to be reading the book actively to a child while the pets watch.

The results shows how humans would naturally respond to the scenario. They would actually make their presence known by squeezing their bodies to their owners, making them feel that they were the real precious pets that must be given attention and even sniff the stuffed dog or move closer to the pail to stress out their dominance and real value.

This proves how dogs show feelings of jealousy when faced with difficult situations with their rivals just as human’s experience. Although they cannot equal the mind and emotions of human beings, they can be said to resemble a two-year old boy or girl in most ways, so jealousy and affection play major roles here. Valuing Dogs through the Years Dogs are man’s best friends as what humans have come to realize for the past 15, 000 years.

Although dogs originate from the wolf family, there are no solid evidences that could testify where this usual friendly behavior in dogs usually came from. Some would just theorize or even think of friendly wolves or pups who have been tamed by humans in the past to show feelings of empathy, joy, sadness or even loyalty to its own owner. While there are no clear points to tell by now why dogs are so close to people, still dogs are the best pets that you can have that imitate human behavior in their own doggy way.

July 24, 2014 By Michael Turner Leave a Comment

A survey shows that 2010 health law makes insurance affordable for people. This research is conducted by Baker’s institutes leading health economics experts. They also added that they cannot say anything about how much percentage will increase in next year. It is certainly rely upon the results of the people who purchased it this year.

Vivian Ho, the Baker Institute’s health economics chair and a Rice University economics professor, gave a presentation to around 200 people in which he said that 85 percent people who bought treatment under the health insurance are qualified for subsidies The total number of buyers of this health insurance is 8 million. Approximately 733,500 people of Texas purchased market place coverage.

Most of the people are buying insurance from the market place because it gives them a tax credit which makes their health insurance quite cheaper. On the other hand, when the subsidy is added to their health insurance it makes it $82 more expensive as compare to the market one. Therefore, it is extremely essential to ban these tax credits.

A research has proved that this health insurance policy helps in the decrease of uninsured rate of country which was 18 percent previous year and now it is 15.9 percent only in the first quarter.

A recent study is published in New England Journal of Medicine confirmed that 10 million people around the country signed up for this coverage.

Google Nexus 6 – a Threat for Galaxy S5

July 18, 2014 By Michael Turner Leave a Comment

Samsung has presented a series of Galaxy smartphone which they have intended to upgrade every year, therefore every year people find a new Galaxy smartphone in the market. Recently Samsung S5 has just landed in the markets; it has an amiable texture with leather back and plastic front. It contains a larger camera with new design and some extremely unique characteristics. Samsung seems much contended after the launch of this product since it has gained a great deal of popularity among youngsters. What they are unaware of is the fact that almost immediately after its inauguration there will be a competitor of it.

Google plans to launch the new version of Nexus in the end of 2014. It will be named as Google Nexus 6 and rumors are going that it will come as rival for Galaxy S5. It will certainly be the toughest competition for Samsung in history since Google’s range of Nexus, up till now, is considered to be the best variety of android smartphones. The Nexus 6 will present a screen of 5.5” with an exceptional screen resolution of 2k display whereas Galaxy S5 has comparatively a slight smaller screen of 5.1”.

The outer side of Samsung Galaxy S5 formed of touch metal finish, on the other hand, Nexus 5 is probably have a lot different appearance, than the usual plastic exterior, of aluminum edges. The only negative aspect of Nexus 6 will be that it would not have an external battery or we can say user cannot switch the battery by them. Both the phones have similar internal storage of 16 and 32 GB with a RAM of 2GB.

Amazon Fire Release Date with Full Specification

July 18, 2014 By Michael Turner Leave a Comment

Amazon has really out done itself with its first step in to the smart phone market. The new Amazon Fire Phone supports 3G and 4G connectivity and uses a nano SIM. It was announced in June this year and is expected to be released this month. It weighs 160 grams and has a 4.7 inch IPS LCD capacitive touch screen with 16 M colors and, naturally, also supports multi-touch.
The new phone has two memory options: a 32 GB option and a 64 GB option, the RAM is apparently 2 GB for both which seems upsetting, but read on because this phone genuinely has something different to show us!

It allows the usual; GPRS, EDGE, WLAN, Bluetooth, NFC and USB options and on top of that has a 13 MP primary camera, wait for it, that’s not all. The camera allows optical image stabilization, LED flash and auto-focus along with geo-tagging. The secondary camera is not too bad either, it’s a humble 2.1 MP camera which also facilitates video making.
Moving on to the hardware, this phone has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset along with a Quad Core 2.2 GHz Krait 400 CPU and the Adreno 330 GPU. Moreover, all of this is integrated with an Amazon based operating system called Amazon Fire OS v3.5.

Now that we’re done with most of the boring technical details let me introduce you to how this phone has genuinely distinguished itself and attracted the market.

The Amazon Fire Phone has two such attractive attributes; one is the Firefly, which allows the user to press a button and media or information from the external environment can be detected and acquired or bought on the phone. Some of you may be thinking this is kind of like Shazam. Well, basically, yes it is. But expand Shazam from music to just about everything and you will have the Firefly.

Another highly attractive feature is the Dynamic Perspective user interface. This operates through 4 front facing camera sensors on the phone which detect special relations distance from the phone. The cameras allow the phone to assess how the user is viewing the phone, and as a result gives the user different views of the same picture from different angles as they would appear in reality, and this is not only a home screen bound and uselessly attractive gimmick. It is utilized in different apps and seeks to enhance the gaming experience on the phone as well. There is one apparent uncertainty though, the Fire Phone has a 2400 mAh battery which should be adequate for most high-end smartphone but may prove to be inadequate for this phone considering the extra sensors, display options and cameras in this phone but that, only time can assure us of. The 32 GB version of the phone is now available on AT&T at $199.

North America’s Salamander Population at Risk!

July 13, 2014 By Michael Turner Leave a Comment

Salamander are a number of species from the amphibian family that fall within the order Caudata. Recent reports from North America suggest that its largest Salamander, the eastern hellbender has been progressively decreasing.

The eastern hellbender is two feet long and is known to be the third largest salamander in the world. The numbers have been decreasing at such an alarming rate that the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service has started to consider placing the eastern hellbender salamander to the endangered list.

Even though scientists are uncertain as to the exact reason for the disappearance of these exotic amphibians it doesn’t require much contemplation to conclude that us humans might have something to do with it.

North America’s Salamander Population at Risk!

Many experts believe that the decrease in hellbender salamander population could have something to do with the unsafe rivers and streams which are the habitat of the animal.
The safety of the rivers and streams has been jeopardized mainly due to pollution and fungus. Construction projects including dams and the like also disrupt the water flow and interfere with the speeds of the rivers consequently making the water unappealing for the animals.

Rod Williams, an associate professor of herpetology from Purdue University who has also been tracking Indiana’s hellbenders for quite some time points out that these fascinating creatures live up to 30 years, so a substantial decrease in their population over a short time is indicative of problem with the water quality.
The Ozark hellbenders which are said to be a close relative of the eastern hellbenders have already been labeled as endangered and their numbers have decreased at an astounding rate.

Many researchers have tried to motivate people to help increase or at least sustain the current hellbender population by planting trees at the edges of the rivers which causes the water quality to improve. Perhaps that will lead to a decrease in the progressively declining hellbender population. However to avoid such incidents all together a conscious paradigm shift of the human race is required. We need to stop looking at nature as a combination of resources that we can control and start viewing it as an intricate, intelligent and unimaginably wise system in which each life form holds its own purpose.
