Facebook Profile Color Changing App is a Scam

August 9, 2014 By Kenneth Scott Leave a Comment

Heard that you could change the color of your Facebook profile? Well, its a scam. It tricks people in to clicking on the link and giving away their information and eventually installs malware in to your PC and starts spreading to other PCs in your network, so beware.

The app tells you can pick from nine different colors while a Chinese internet security company called Cheeta Mobile found that it actually downloads malicious software compromising the information of the account and the computer. Cheeta further explained that it is very easy to package viruses and malware in the form of applications on Facebook.

The app initially lures people into the trap through a video which facilitates the hackers access to all user data. That is followed by a message which alerts the user that they have a virus threat and offers an anti-virus which actually installs malicious software. With the already fueling debate over data security on social media websites people are a tad bit paranoid, and perhaps rightly so. Facebook should take this into account and offer better data security to its users.

Jealousy in Dogs – What’s the Real Score Here

July 24, 2014 By Deborah Campbell Leave a Comment

Are dogs really that jealous like what humans do with their loved ones or romantic mate? A recent study in the PLOS ONE journal conducted by the researchers at the University of California San Diego showed that dogs, like humans, exhibit jealous behaviors and other obvious acts associated to jealousy with rival dogs.

Performing the Case Study Shows a Wonderful Process with Awesome Results During actual study, the volunteer dog owners were individually given a plastic jack-o-lantern pail, a stuffed dog that barks, whine and wags, and a children’s book in musical pop-up style. The dog owners were asked to ignore the presence of their pets while treating the pail and the stuffed dog as their own precious Fido pet. They even pretended to be reading the book actively to a child while the pets watch.

The results shows how humans would naturally respond to the scenario. They would actually make their presence known by squeezing their bodies to their owners, making them feel that they were the real precious pets that must be given attention and even sniff the stuffed dog or move closer to the pail to stress out their dominance and real value.

This proves how dogs show feelings of jealousy when faced with difficult situations with their rivals just as human’s experience. Although they cannot equal the mind and emotions of human beings, they can be said to resemble a two-year old boy or girl in most ways, so jealousy and affection play major roles here. Valuing Dogs through the Years Dogs are man’s best friends as what humans have come to realize for the past 15, 000 years.

Although dogs originate from the wolf family, there are no solid evidences that could testify where this usual friendly behavior in dogs usually came from. Some would just theorize or even think of friendly wolves or pups who have been tamed by humans in the past to show feelings of empathy, joy, sadness or even loyalty to its own owner. While there are no clear points to tell by now why dogs are so close to people, still dogs are the best pets that you can have that imitate human behavior in their own doggy way.

5 Best Tablets to Consider this Month

July 18, 2014 By Kenneth Scott Leave a Comment

Indecisive about which tablet to buy? Having trouble narrowing your choices down from the down? Want to pick out the good ones from all the technological mediocrity out there? Well, we’ll do it for you.

iPad Air 2:

First and foremost, IPad Air, hands down one of the best tablets ever manufactured. Its successor may arrive this year but the exact details are not known. It is common knowledge that the iPad Air isn’t cheap but it’s a tablet which lasts long gives its users the ultimate tablet experience that so many other just fail to match up to. It is definitely more portable than its predecessors, has a 9.7 inch display and is quite powerful too because of a 64 bit A7 processor with an M7 motion co-processor.

iPad Mini 2 With Retina Display:

Second on our list, and this may annoy some of you, is the iPad mini with retina display! As the name suggests it’s obviously smaller than the iPad Air. The retina display is 7.9 inches, the overall small size makes the iPad mini more portable. It comes with the same processor as the iPad Air and some models are able to connect to a 4G LTE network which facilitates extremely fast speeds of internet.

Nexus 7:

The Nexus 7 is also quite an impressive option, and it will save you some money compared to the Apple tablets. Nexus 8 is set to be released by the end of the year so this phone, in some ways still has the stage. It comes with a sleek black matte design that is both, desirable and ergonomic. Furthermore, it comes with a quad core processor, 2 GB RAM, a rear camera and Android’s latest operating system called Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat.

Amazon’s Kindle Fire HDX:

Next up, is definitely Amazon’s Kindle Fire HDX. It has a 7 inch display and is capable of competing with Nexus 7 and even the iPad mini retina display. Interestingly, it doesn’t use an Android OS but a rather modified version of Android which is connected with Amazon’s services. Oh and another attraction; it cheaper than the other tablets.

The Galaxy Tab S:

The Galaxy Tab S is also a contender on the list and why wouldn’t it be? It’s got an 8 inch screen with an astoundingly beautiful display, a great camera and it has the company’s Magazine UX instead of the Samsung Touchwiz, which is a significant improvement if you ask us.

We hope these consideration will help you decide more reasonably or at least get you a little closer to deciding.

Research Links Tameness of Animals with Neural Crest Deficits

July 15, 2014 By Cristopher Hall Leave a Comment

Adam Wilkins from the Humboldt University of Berlin and co-authors Richard Wrangham of Harvard University and Tecumseh Fitch of the University of Vienna have proposed a hypothesis that begs much contemplation.

Tameness-of-Animals
They suggest that the cuteness and the tamed attitude of domesticated animals is a disadvantage. The have created an association of the docile traits in domesticated animals with a group of embryonic stem cells called the neural crest.
More than 150 years ago the genius in Darwin coerced him to ponder why domesticated animals were so different compared to their wilder cousins. Thus, the neural crest hypothesis may finally provide an etiological explanation for why.
Today, our pets are definitely tamer, they have floppier ears, softer – less menacing – jawlines and have a relatively docile look. The explanation that the neural crest hypothesis suggests is that the stem cells are formed near the spinal column and during the initial development stages and they affect jaws, teeth, skin pigment, ears and the adrenal glands. The adrenal glands are linked with flight or fight responses and as a consequence of taming are curtailed or diminished.
Wilkins suggests that when humans started breeding these animals to become more docile they may have unintentionally selected animals with small neural crest abnormalities or deficits. That in turn would result in slow maturing adrenal glands which would limit their aggression and make them more resourceful for humans in multiple ways.

It is a rather interesting scientific hypothesis and if we are lucky it may reveal something further regarding mammalian genetics in general. It must be noted though, that it is rather reductionist. It doesn’t take into account environmental factors or slow behavioral conditioning that animals received as result of their interactions with humans. It does point out some cogent connections between breeding, genetics and resulting characteristics and is thus inherently valuable.
It also calls for a more philosophical contemplation of our relationship with animals, and how tremendously we have changed them and their lives. Domestication of animals has contributed in incalculable ways to civilization but a moral question comes to mind, are they only here as a resource for humanity or do they have independent existences?

Suicide at the Utah Festival Bonfire

July 15, 2014 By Cristopher Hall Leave a Comment

A man, later identified as Salt Lake City resident Christopher Wallace, died over the weekend at a bonfire at an Utah Festival. The police are pursuing the case as one of suicide which seems to be the rational conclusion as the man, as it appears, deliberately jumped in to the flames.
The shocking incident occurred at 11p.m on Saturday at an annual Element 11 festival which took place in Grantsville.
Element 11 is a non-profit organization which aims to ignite a culture of creativity and self-expression. It seems to be a counter culture community which claims to see art in all ways and in all people.

J.P. Bernier, a spokesman for Element 11 informed the Deseret News that there was no negligence or malpractice on part of anyone from the organization or otherwise. “He was very fast; he was very motivated.” he said. Regardless, firefighters tried to somehow douse the flames but remained unsuccessful.

Lt Steve Barrett from Grantsville police said that Christopher Wallace had informed some of attendees of what he intended to do. Furthermore, there seems to be reports that suggest that any form of drugs or alcohol were involved. Relatives of Wallace could not be reached on Monday.

Syrian Rebels Poised To Leave The Old City Of Homs

June 16, 2014 By Leave a Comment

After a negotiated pullout from Homs, the last group Syrian rebels is also poised to leave the city for good, said the provincial governor.

Governor Talal al-Barazi told AFP, “The third and final convoy of the day is about to leave. Earlier today, 200 rebels were evacuated. There are another 500 people who are about to be evacuated. The whole operation has been smooth.”

https://www.tampabay.com/resources/images/dti/rendered/2014/05/A4S_syria050314_13064727_8col.jpg

The rebels had held the city of Homs under siege for two years and this is the first time their withdrawal from the city centre has been actuated.

Approximately 980 people, including rebels and a few civilians, left the Old City on the day 1 of the UN-supervised evacuation. The evacuees have been transported to an opposition-held town of Dar al-Kabira, which is 20 kilometres (13 miles) to the north. This operation leaves all rebel groups confined to a single district.

Barazi expects to have a similar evacuation agreement for Waer too.

He said, “In Waer, things will be easier and in the coming weeks new deals will be announced to restore security.”

The Syrian government has allowed the remaining rebels in Homs to release dozens of hostages and prisoners held by opposition fighters.

This is not first deal between the rebels and the Syrian government, the past saw many agreements foiled, but finally the rebel fighters have conceded to withdraw from an area they forcefully controlled, under a settlement with the government.

OBESITY Update – The OECD Report

May 27, 2014 By Cristopher Hall Leave a Comment

Obesity is one of the diseases that does not consider as a member of disease family by most of the population but according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development – OECD, the rate of obesity continues to hike across the world’s most developed countries and SES hit harder by the recent economic crisis, such as women and the poor.

According to the OECD’s report obesity rates are impartially stable in countries such as the Unites States, Canada, Korea and Italy. But the situation is alarming for the countries like Australia, France, Mexico, and Switzerland as the rates are raising on average by 3 percent a in countries such as, they have been, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said in report.

The report is based on a review of data from 10 OECD countries and it will present on Wednesday at the European Congress on Obesity in Bulgaria, according to resource.

According to this data analysis the global recession that struck in 2008 forced many families in harder-hit nations to curtail spending on food, especially healthy options such as fruits and vegetables, in favor of cheaper, less healthy options. OECD found, in nations that managed better in the economic slowdown, certain groups of people, particularly women and those who are less educated and have lower incomes, were also more likely to be obese.

OECD – “The economic crisis is likely to have contributed to further growth in obesity; the obesity epidemic has not stopped spreading”

Obesity trends in selected OECD countries

The report will be present on Wednesday and most of the OECD’s 34 members are wealthy countries like United States and European nations, and some emerging economies such as Mexico and Turkey. The group does not include India, China or other bigger developing countries.

According to the OECD’s report, rising obesity rates can also add economic burden as governments grapple with the costs of chronic conditions linked to obesity such as diabetes, heart disease and even cancer. Current efforts aimed at preventing further weight gain, including using financial incentives to boost wellness or increasing basic health exams, are improving.

Few key points of the report are:

?The majority of the population, and one in five children, are overweight or obese in the OECD area. A nearly tenfold variation is observed across OECD countries, but existing data may not fully reflect the extent of the epidemic.

?Several countries have developed multi-stakeholder frameworks, involving business and civil society actors in the development of public health policies. Evaluations of the effectiveness of these initiatives are only beginning to emerge.

LG G2 : Things To Know

May 17, 2014 By Roxanne Briean Leave a Comment

LG enabled their users with a wide range of Smartphones availability and their variety increases day by day. Unfortunately, the market of smart phone is not being generous on LG however, company is still hopeful.

Therefore, recently they have launched its new smart phone LG-G2 in market to achieve that fame back and to leave a mark on all the other Smartphone brands.

As soon as we observe it closely then it can surely be considered as the rival of Galaxy S4 because it has similarities with S4. It has a screen of 5.2”, larger than galaxy S4, which shouts loud and says it is only for the superior class.

It would be an excellent choice for the people who love photography since it has 13MP camera. LG has shaped it in a very smooth back black panel and they have named it as the world’s thinnest smart phone. The most notable difference in this phone is the power key which is usually present on the side of the phones whereas, in LG-G2 smart phone that key is located at the back of the phone hence “REAR KEY” is the name given to it.

Company has also revealed the reason behind this placement, they said that it would be easier for user to switch the phone on and off with the help of index fingers. People who have even slightest knowledge of the smart phone know that the rear key is less expensive as compare to the side keys. I would say that if LG wanted to make a difference with this product than it should not have used things of this category (cheaper rates). It will definitely smash the trust of its customers.
