Streaming is Easier Thanks to the New GeForce Experience

September 5, 2015 By Michael Turner Leave a Comment

new GeForce Experience from Nvidia

With YouTube Gaming and now the new GeForce Experience from Nvidia, streaming has never been easier!

There are two modes of game streaming. The first one is streaming via a video feed that showcases what you do inside the game. The second one is about how you can play a game remotely through another device that streams the experience.

Nvidia is well aware that both of these modes are becoming more and more popular with each passing year. That’s why they are introducing a new GeForce Experience, which lets users do both things much more easily.

It has begun rolling out in beta form, but I would recommend patience on your behalf. They still need to polish everything before it’s suitable for the end-consumer.

The update that introduces an on-screen overlay will be available for all of your games. You don’t need to set anything prior to your gaming session. All your tools are already there, if you want to use them of course. You can access it via a keyboard shortcut.

If you don’t want to use this feature, just don’t. It won’t stand in your way, it’s totally unobtrusive.

New GeForce Experience - The Witcher 3

Instant replay and video recording resemble Nvidia’s ShawdoPlay function. Basically, that’s exactly what they are, but in a more straightforward and intuitive format.

The max res you can use is 4k at 60 frames per second, this means that for an hour of recording you’ll need roughly 60 gigs of free space.

You have the option to let the Nvidia GPU run a DVR service in your background. It automatically records the last 30 seconds – you can set it to as long as 20 minutes. Afterwards, they are available for replay.

The most important feature is the sharing element. The new overlay is so much more easier to use and uploading is reliable and quick. Trim your video as you like and then upload it to YouTube.

Those of use who have done gameplay walkthroughs or Let’s Play vids know how trimming a video is a huge chore. There are no settings you need to tweak before-hand. The new GeForce Experience might just be a knight in shining armor.

Play a match of LOL, record it, and upload a high-quality video to YouTube. Just Fantastic.

There’s also a broadcast to Twitch option. Yet again, Nvidia emphasizes  quick access – click one button named Start to get your session live.

New GeForce Experience - Trine 3

The last feature, that we know of so far, adds the possibility of inviting your friends to join your game via e-mail or a shareable URL. When and if they accept your invite, they will be able to either watch your session, play with you in co-op games or game in your place.

Everything will be done in a 720p res at 30 frames per second and your mates will need to run Chrome and a plug-in – on PC or Mac.

Unfortunately, there is no Chromebook support at the moment, but who knows what the future holds for us?

I’m quite curios on how this will evolve. What about you?

NVIDIA GTX 980 Ti Will Satisfy Your 4K Gaming Needs!

June 2, 2015 By Cristopher Hall Leave a Comment

NVIDIA just released GTX 980 Ti

Welp, NVIDIA released their GTX 980 Ti, and they praise themselves to have built a graphic card that will suit your 4K gaming needs.

This comes like such a great news for me – I just bought last year’s model for about $550, and now the price dropped to $500 <insert angry face here>.

But let’s not talk about my anger issues. NVIDIA’s new GTX 980 Ti will cost about $650, and it’s a much improved graphic card – first off, it has about 6GB of RAM, and it will run on NVIDIA’s new GM200 GPU.

The GM200 GPU is at the center of their Titan X card series – you know, the ones that cost about $1000?! It’s absurdly expensive, and only if you’re into rendering video you should buy it. In my opinion, it’s overkill for the average user.

GTX 980 Ti

The new GTX 980 Ti will feature the new 2,816 parallel processing CUDA cores with 176 texture units – that’s about %40 more than what its older brother sports. The company claims that it’s perfect for 4K gaming, and it can actually run GTA V at 60fps – of course, with everything set to the max.

Also, NVIDIA’s GTX 980 Ti is 50 percent faster than its predecessor when you take a look at the graphic card’s memory bandwidth – it makes sense, because it runs smoother, and better when you throw big detailed textures at it. The Titan X does the job way better, but it costs $400 more.

Even though this seems pretty great, and it really is pretty great, can’t really say that I’m keen on changing my graphic card. I just bought last year’s model, and it was a huge investment on my part. The thing is, I don’t need 4K gaming in my life, and I can enjoy every bit of The Witcher 3, or Batman Arkham Knight, as someone who buys a $650, or a $1000 graphic card.

Take a look at what 4K Gaming really is, and you decide if it’s really worth it:

But I do applaud NVIDIA for their constant advancements in technology – their $200 GTX 960, and $330 GTX 970 are top-shelf affordable graphic cards.

Gaming has become much more pleasant, and much more easier to get into. I started to game way back in the 90s, and getting a personal computer meant that my mum, and dad had to a) work till they drop , b) sell an arm and a leg, and c) eat only Ramen for six months.

I’ll stick to 1080p gaming thank you very much.

What about you dear reader? Are you planning on buying NVIDIA’s new GTX 980 Ti for 4K gaming? Or are you sick and tired of hearing 4K all around the office? Tell us in the comment section below!

Nvidia Shield Set-Top Box Hands On

March 7, 2015 By Nancy Young Leave a Comment

Nvidia Shield Set-Top Box Hands On

Nvidia’s latest Shield is an Android top box that makes use of the company’s latest Tegra chip. The device streams games over a platform called GRID, it can stream games from your PC and also supports Twitch streaming at the same time. Here are our Nvidia Shield set-top box hands on impressions.

However, the question is: Is this device any good? And the answer is: Kind of.

Having recently used the device it’s safe to say that it’s a pretty nifty peace of hardware. However, being a streaming device it’s uncertain how it will perform after its official release.

Nvidia’s Shield is powerful, small and looks similar to other set-top boxes we’ve used. The Shield box will be very familiar if you’ve ever used the Fire TV from Amazon. The device offers a lot of apps and digital content from Netflix and Hulu to Google Play and YouTube. The Shield features voice search and a microphone is built right in the gamepad.

But I’m sure you don’t care as much about Android TV as you do about the game streaming, so let’s get to that.

Does the game streaming actually work? Well, yes, it really does. But will game streaming work right in your home? We can’t tell you for sure at this time. The fact is that this feature depends on your internet connection as well as how well the servers from Nvidia will perform after the official release.

This is what we played on the device:

A match in Ultra Street Fighter IV streamed from Nvidia’s GRID
Around five minutes of Dying Light, also streamed from GRID
A very short section from Doom 3: BFG Edition played locally

Let’s start with the most relevant game from the list. Doom 3 looks and feels exactly as Doom 3 should feel and the only difference is that the game now plays on Android and its graphics are a little nicer. The game performs really smooth and it’s very pretty. However, whether Doom 3 is exciting or not depends solely on you and what kinds of games you like to play. What we can confirm is that the game actually runs on Shield and, supposedly the new device can also play Crysis 3 locally. We weren’t able to play the game, however, mainly because Crytek didn’t want the press to test the game for now. Nevertheless, we did get a look at Crysis 3 on the Shield and we can say that what we saw was indeed Crysis 3 and actually played like the game, albeit somewhat laggy.

When we played Ultra Street Fighter IV and Dying Light we didn’t sense any lag. To be fair, we only played the games for a short period of time and game streaming should be tested at home to see exactly how well it performs.

We’ll make a full review of the device when it launches but for now we can say that it definitely looks promising. It’s safe to say that if this $200 machine will perform great after its official release, it will become a serious competition for the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. But to pay this kind of money just to stream video content doesn’t seem like a great idea. There are great set-top boxes out there that cost less than half its price.
