eBay Offers More Purchase Options for Nintendo

November 23, 2015 By Cristopher Hall Leave a Comment

eBay offers new options for Nintendo buyers.

Nintendo has just opened its personal store on the eBay auction website.

As the Christmas holidays are approaching, eBay offers more purchase options for Nintendo in the U.S. Even though the company has its own official online store, it is now expanding to the realm of eBay. The new store will offer games, consoles and accessories for Nintendo fans. Additionally, buyers can rest assured that all of their purchases are 100% safe.

But what is it that makes the eBay store different? Buyers will find products that are not available outside the America stores of Nintendo. To many it would seem that Nintendo’s actions have no particular reason, but the company has stated on their website that it is a calculated step, since the official store lacks customer patronage.

Endgadget expressed its opinion on the matter. In their view, Nintendo will have a better visibility with eBay than with its personal store only, as eBay is a very popular online marketplace which also functions very well. Furthermore, it becomes easier for people to use only one platform for buying various products, since they will also be able to buy from the eBay Nintendo store with their eBay account. Nintendo’s timing is also well calculated, as the gift season for Christmas is just starting.

So what can you find in the new Nintendo store? At the moment, the hardware category features Remote Plus controllers from Wii, as well as 2DS systems. Games are also in the spotlight, with New Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario 3D Land. For the moment, those who are interested can find one product on sale, the Wii Fit U, along with another 34 items at a retail or refurbished price.

Another important aspect is that the store will provide refurbished consoles. This type of consoles came hard to find, and buyers had to search for those on websites such as Amazon or Craigslist, where often the deals looked dubious. Users are much more at ease when they buy from official stores, where the risk of being tricked is practically non-existent.

As eBay offers more purchase options for Nintendo, with many items that are harder to come by, all of us are sure to find some exclusive gifts for our loved ones this Christmas. This time, without fearing scams like losing our money or getting a fake product.

The Beginner’s Guide Tries to Make You a Better Human

October 5, 2015 By Cristopher Hall Leave a Comment

The Beginner's Guide Video Game

The Beginner’s Guide isn’t your run of the mill video-game – it’s thought-provoking and it asks gut-wrenching existential questions. More or less . It opens with a huge dilemma. Can you know someone by analyzing their art?

As you play the game – a fairly short experience mind you; compelling problems arise. They relate to how you can recognize selfishness, fostering intimacy – how it’s more important to some than to others; and how does someone maintain a friendship and its difficulty throughout the years.

Even though it’s rather short, clocking slightly over the two hour mark, The Beginner’s Guide is a beautiful mourning filled with the very best kind of surreal. Images of a wormhole suddenly appearing and opening during a self help talk, that ominous door aimlessly floating in space, and that country coffee shop that turns into a prison will haunt you for days to come.

It starts with the The Beginner’s Guide author, Davey Wreden communicating with the player. Davey even gives his e-mail – unfortunately, he didn’t reply to my message.

It sets a comfortable and patient tone throughout the game just because Davey makes a personal calling. It seems like he’s saying to just relax and take it as it is. Afterwards, he tells the gamer that he’s going to be playing a few games developed by Coda, one of his friends.

Yet, these games are somewhat broken and abstract. Because they are deeply flawed, Wreden says, the human element is painstakingly obvious.

Don’t go in expecting Tim Schafer writing, nor Limbo-like puzzles – you are just observing these games, you are grabbing as much information as you can and Wreden solves them for you. You don’t have a set objective, an ultimate quest to fulfill. As the game’s description showcases, The Beginner’s Guide is about the story of a person who struggles to deal with something that he just can’t understand.

The Beginner's Guide Video Game

That something is another human and the game makes it painfully clear that you never truly know someone, regardless of how much time you spend together, or how many things you both went through.

Just scraping the surface, the story seems to be about a tortured soul – a recluse artist who creates games that are ultimately incredibly hard to play. You can take it as a relationship between an idol and his fan, with the latter exploring his misguided expectations.

In the end, you’ll be prone to think that The Beginner’s Guide is about utter loneliness, how friendships dissolve through time and how these connections can be easily shattered, never to be rebuilt again.

I highly recommend The Beginner’s Guide to casual and hardcore gamers alike. Casual gamers will fall in love with how immersive the world is – beautifully painting surreal experiences on top of an abysmal sadness. Veterans should play Wreden’s title to get a glimpse of how hard it is to actually develop a game that pleases players. At the same time, hardcore gamers could learn a valuable lesson – in the end, it’s all about having fun and building relationships while gaming.

Epic Games Doesn’t Want to Make a Terrible VR Experience

June 21, 2015 By Deborah Campbell Leave a Comment

Epic Games Supports Virtual Reality

Epic Games has announced countless times that they are supporting virtual reality in any way they can, but the company doesn’t want to make a terrible virtual reality experience on their Unreal Engine.

Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, and their included resources, offers developers the tools necessary to build a virtual reality game. At the current moment the Unreal Engine supports VR hardware such as Facebook-owned Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Samsung Gear VR.

So you make an idea how much Epic Games loves the virtual reality trend, CEO Tim Sweeney said, earlier this year, that – ” It’s going to change the world. The hardware is going to double in quality every few years for another decade, to the point where, 10 years from now, it’s going to be hard to tell the difference between virtual reality and the real world.”

Epic Games Unreal Engine

That’s a pretty bold statement to be honest. Virtual reality changing the world? Let’s calm ourselves a little bit and reassess our mental state, shall we dear Tim Sweeney? Probably in 50 years or so, but not now – it’s impossible.

Engadget managed to sit down, and talk with Chief Technology Officer Kim Libreri, and Unreal Engine General Manager Ray Davis, at this year’s E3 event, to talk more about the company’s stance on virtual reality, and where they believe the trend is heading.

” We wanna make sure that, whatever platform developers choose to use, they’re well supported in UE 4″ says Libreri, which notes that VR development should have a set of standards that will not only make a developers’ life easier, but they will also ensure a great gaming experience.

Epic Games Unreal Engine Oculus Rift demo experience

Davis continues, and adds that – ” It’s always been sort of our [approach] with the engine. Even going all the way back to the original Xbox [360] and pushing back on Microsoft to make sure they put enough memory in it.”

Davis also notes that sharing what works, and what doesn’t with other VR developers, and of course manufacturers, will ensure that games will only get better with time.

Take a look at the Unreal Engine experience on Oculus Rift.

Can’t imagine what a horror game with vampires, ghouls, werewolves, and other creatures of the night might feel like – wet, that’s how!

As we start to think about the evolution of the shooter game or the exploration/action/adventure game, the Uncharted for VR, I think that it’s better to experiment initially with smaller, digestible things. As a collective, we learn that language quickly.” states Libreri.

It’s good to know that Epic Games, a company which pushed forward  the gaming industry, and its standards,  tackles virtual reality. But can Epic Games provide a good VR experience? That Unreal Engine Oculus Rift demo looks like it was made in two, max three days. What’s up with that Epic Games?
