Planet Earth : Solar Winds Increased Lightening Strikes

May 15, 2014 By Kenneth Scott Leave a Comment

It is stated in new research by Reading University, Sun releases energy particles that causes lightning to strike on earth. According to this new discovery, increasing amount of thunderstorm activity on earth and the acceleration of solar wind results the streaming of higher energy particles, evidently these particles are from space and they are one of main causes of lightning bolts.

In Europe, Chris Scott and his team found, the rate of increase in lightning all over region is significant, after the arrival of high speed solar wind for up to 40 days.

Chris Scott from the University of Reading further explained the phenomenon in his statement;” We have found evidence that high-speed solar wind streams can increase lightning rates. This may be an actual increase in lightning or an increase in the magnitude of lightning, lifting it above the detection threshold of measurement instruments,”

Researchers further explained, according to them, across the Europe, within 40 days, there was an average of 422 lightning strikes. These are the 40 days of the arrival of solar wind on Earth. It says after the arrival of solar wind rate of lightning strike increased in between 12 and 18 days, where else solar wind is capable of traveling more than a million miles per hour on earth.
Solar winds collide with atmosphere that causes income of charged particle results the alteration of electric properties of air.

Scott note stated; “The results could prove useful for weather forecasters, since these solar wind streams rotate with the sun, sweeping past the earth at regular intervals, accelerating particles into earth’s atmosphere.”

Antartic glaciers irreversible collapse begun

May 13, 2014 By Cristopher Hall Leave a Comment

Global warming is one factor causing irreversible collapse of Antarctic glaciers. According to researcher, it was previously estimated, in spite global climate change of the west Antarctic Ice sheet would last for thousands of years. But according to the new studies, researchers have clearly stated that the loss is on its way, changes are occurring more rapidly than expected. Oceans are warming up, causing rise of water level across the planet by another four feet within 200 years.

antartic-glaciers-collapse

There are several factors causing water warming, but the major factors are Global warming and warming of planet caused by human activity that has depleted ozone, causing change in wind pattern.

“There is no red button to stop this,” said Eric Rignot, a University of California.

Antarctica Ocean has surrounded the South Pole, contains the largest mass of ice on the planet, it contains 80 percent of world’s fresh water estimably. The great consequences around the globe are the loss of even portion of ice.
According to the scientist, the problem compounds itself in several ways.

The study, conducted by researchers at the University of Washington focused largely on one of the six glaciers, the Thwaites Glacier. According to the study scientists has pinpointed how quickly the giant Thwaites might disappear, this can cause global sea levels to rise by 2 feet. This change holds a chaotic impact over Earth.

The University of Washington did experimental study using satellite measurements on computer models of glaciers to determine that the Thwaites might take minimum 200 years, or maximum 1,000 years.

“There is quite a bit of ongoing destabilization,” he said, and the disappearance would begin slowly and accelerate over time, with no available “stabilizing mechanism.”
