Climate in a warming world

August 13, 2014 By Cristopher Hall Leave a Comment

Presently, people are so used to of global warming that most of them have not experienced the below average cooler temperature of the Earth. 1985 was the last time when the temperature of the Earth fell.

Soon people will expect a rise in temperature of Earth with heat waves since the government has no intentions to take serious measures in order to trim down the green house effect.
Michel Jarraud, Secretary-General of the U.N.’s World Meteorological Organization in an interview said that since the last three decades the global and regional temperature rose to such a great extent that people who are under 30 have never enjoyed a single day without global warming.

Moreover, he stated that the change in climate looks very slow from a human perspective, merely when it comes to scientific  evaluation its occurrence is extremely rapid. Therefore, there ought to be a continuous reminder of this risk.

Granting to the report of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), February 1985 was the last time the temperature went lower than the average temperature of the 20th century.

Currently, the expected age of the population of the world is 29.4 years, which means for the total population of Earth 7.2 billion who have never experienced the lowest temperature of Earth.

People are habitual of this constant change in climate as stated by Thomas Peterson, President of WMO commission of Climatology.

The market stabilizes as uncertainty decreases

August 9, 2014 By Cristopher Hall Leave a Comment

The market stabilized by the news that Russia was ending military drills near Ukranian borders while the investors overlooked US air strikes in Iraq. The S&P and Dow both reported their best day since March, on Friday. The CBOE market volatility index fell 5.7 percent to 15.71 percent indicating signs of reduced investor uncertainty. The buying intensified as the end of the day neared, with the gains helping to fix losses earlier in the week.

Before Friday, the S&P 500 had given up more than 4 percent while the small cap Russel was down 7 percent over the past four weeks. For some time, stocks have been under pressure, as investors worried about uncertainty around the world pulled back from riskier assets.

According to Malcolm Polley, president and chief investment officer of Stewart Capital Advisors in Indiana, Pennsylvania, “ The market hates uncertainty and when it doesn’t have enough information about how badly an event could impact the economy, it tends to take the worst-case scenario and people sell off.”

Earlier on Friday, air strikes were carried out against Islamic State fighters by the United States, these were the first strikes authorized since President Barack Obama pulled back in 2011.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 182.52 points, or 1.12 percent, to 16,550.79. The S&P 500 ended up 21.84 points, or 1.14 percent, to 1,931.41. The Nasdaq Composite added 36.02 points, or 0.83 percent, to 4,370.99. According to BATS exchange data compared with the five day average of 6.5 billion about 5.5 million shares traded on all US platforms.

Bats are not as blind as we believe.

July 23, 2014 By Cristopher Hall Leave a Comment

Science has proved that bats utilize polarization of the sun set to familiarize their internal magnetic compasses before they go out to prey in the dark. Birds are famous to make use of polarized light of the sky to adjust their compass mechanism. Several other animals that have orient mechanism use the arrangement of stars, potency and productivity of Earth’s magnet field.

ImageGenThe above research has published in Nature communication. This mechanism of birds is only active till the distance of 165 feet. They use their vision sense to find direction longer than 165 feet.

This process of polarization is very powerful at the time of sun rise and sun set. The one end of this light point towards north and the second end point to the south.

Researchers performed an experiment with the help of 70 female bats. They took them from their home cave and permitted them to watch the sunset from their experimental boxes. All those boxes were fitted with different light filters. Then when the bats were set free, 90% headed home whereas, the other 10 percent flew to somewhere else.
