Is Universe a 2-D hologram? Scientists are Sorting

August 21, 2014 By Michael Turner Leave a Comment

U.S Department of Energy’s Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory executed a unique experiment. The scientists have invented a Holometer which is the most sensitive instrument to assess the quantum jitter of space.

The machine begins to accumulate the data which will resolve some tricky question linked with the universe, such as whether we live in a hologram.
The information regarding the Universe is determined in tiny packets in two dimensions. If we look closely to our T.V screens, then we will see small pixels. In the same way scientist believes that the information associated with the Universe is also comes in pixels. The experts consider  natural “pixel size” is nearly of 10 trillion trillion times tinner as compared to an atom. This distance is generally known as “ Plank scale” among the scientists.

Craig Hogan, director of Fermilab’s Center for Particle Astrophysics stated that researchers wish to know whether the space time is a quantum system like matter or not. If scientists discover anything similar to it, then the entire notion of space will change in an instant.

Quantum Theory proposed that it is out of the question to know about accurate location and speed of subatomic particles.  If space is formed by 2-D bits with incomplete information about the exact position of objects, then space would come into the same category of uncertainty.

Basically,  the experiment investigates the limits of the universe that how much information it can store.

Antarctica bacteria, a sign of new life

August 21, 2014 By Kenneth Scott Leave a Comment

Polar researcher have unveiled about an ancient group of bacteria which generally develops in dark.  They arise in a salty atmosphere which is approximately 70 feet under the ice of Antarctic lake.  This study provides an insight about the unique ecosystem.

National Science Foundation and NASA provided funds for this research. The study turned out extremely beneficial since it provided some major hints on the subject of biochemical processes. The study was primarily focused on the processes takes place without sunlight, carbon dioxide or photosynthesis. Moreover, it describes the possibility of life in salty, cryogenic environments outside of the Earth.  These ecosystems are normally nourished by the sunlight.

The report is printed in this week’s issue of  Proceedings of the National Academy of Science. This study is executed through the struggle of polar researchers from different institutions like University of Illinois, Montana State University and many more.

The bacterial life is originated due to the chemical reactions since the Lake Vida is typically frozen. The condition of Lake Vida resembles a lot to the environment of Mars  The scientist believe that these conditions should also be found somewhere else in the solar system. This discovery established a novel framework for the assessment of of the extraterrestrial life.

Earlier, the experts examined Like Vida in 2005 and 2010 but at that time they resolved that the ice layers are split into two due to sunlight.

Bioengineers formed functional 3D brain-like tissue

August 21, 2014 By Deborah Campbell Leave a Comment

The U.S researchers on Monday revealed that they have formed a three dimensional brain that pays performance and has a structure similar to the brain of a rat. It possesses the power to survive in the scientific labs to almost two months.

The scientist has unveiled this thing in the journal of US journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences,. Moreover, they explained in details regarding that brain tissue and said that this invention will certainly provide them an opportunity to study how different disease affects the brain like trauma and other.

As stated by the researchers of Tufts University, The chief purpose of the creation of this tissue is to organize a structure which consists of two biomaterial substances with dissimilar physical characteristics.  A sponge gibbet which comprises of a silk protein and a softer. Experts filled up the middle of this material with the neurons of rats.

After some days the neurons begin to establish a connection with the surface of scaffold and construct a permanent system which bear a resemblance to the brain structure of a mouse.

According to Professor David Kaplan, this new system can trail the reaction of tissue to a major brain injury of reality and the procedure through which it can be restored properly.

In the past, the scientist has accomplished in the creating a 3D neuron, but unfortunately they had a very short span of life.

Researchers formed cybernetic moth capable of being controlled remotely

August 21, 2014 By Nancy Young Leave a Comment

North Caroline University (NCSU) researchers formed a cybernetic moth through the implantation of electrodes in the creature. Experts inserted these electrodes at the their initial stage of the life cycle. These electrodes provide insight regarding the procedure through which the creature flies. The  Electrodes also permit the scientist to manage the flight of this moth.

Dr. Alper Bozhurt, a researcher of this experiment created a technique for the implantation of electrodes at the moth’s pupal phase. In this stage moth is still going through the process of development and transforming it from a caterpillar into a moth.

The month was linked to a platform that is balanced in the air with the help of electromagnets. These electromagnets collect data from the electrodes which is composed of electromyographic signals. The chief function of electromyographic signals is to control the muscles that are associated with the trajectory.

As stated by Dr. Bozkurt the this close examination of the electromyographic signals and the entire process of moth’s flying provided a sounder understanding of moths maneuver. The chief purpose of this experiment is to utilize the moth in the search and rescue operation in future. In order to achieve this aim scientist will have to devise a special sensor for moth for a proper aerial sensor network. This sensor network would be extremely helpful in any calamity.

Pterosaurs : Rulers of Sky

August 20, 2014 By Deborah Campbell Leave a Comment

A study printed in journal Zookeys tells an amazing fact regarding the distribution and range of pterosaurs who belong to the Azhdarchidae family at the end of the Cretaceous period.

The word Azhdarchidan pterosaurs came from a Persian word Azdarha which means dragon. The group comprises of a number of large animals generally known as pterosaurs. It has a wingspan of almost 40 feet.  These animals survived longer than the other toothy pterodactyloids and ruled the skies of the entire world till 60 years.

According to Dr. Alexander Averiano, the author of the study stated that this change in dominance from toothed to toothless pterodactyloids evidently demonstrates some basic modification in Cretaceous ecosystem which researchers are unable to understand yet.

This group is not an easy thing in terms of research. The researchers have a small number of remnants left for their study. Most of the fossils are in sedimentary deposits which is famous as Konservant-Lagerstatten. The fossils in Lagerstatten are conserved with the help of low oxygen environment which is rather suitable for bones and soft tissues. Unluckily these deposits are exceptional for the Late Cretaceous period.

“Azhdarchidae currently represent a real nightmare for paleontologists: most taxa are known from few fragmentary bones, which often do not overlap between named taxa, the few articulated skeletons are poorly preserved, and some of the best available material has remained undescribed for forty years.” said Dr Averianov.

Regardless of the shortage of fossils, several are discovered which illustrates that they played a vital role in the ecology of the system of the Cretaceous period.

This policy was heralded a week after Zelda Williams, daughter of famous entertainer Williams said that she would quite her twitter account. The girl made this decision since people were sending horrible Photoshpoed images of her dead father on the social networking website.

“Mining our accounts for photos of dad, or judging me on the number of them is cruel and unnecessary,” she wrote on Twitter before departing the social network.

Twitter immediately took action in response by blocking a number of accounts which were sending pictures. Furthermore it said that the company will soon revise its user protection policies.

According to Del Harvey, twitter’s vice president of trust and safety expressed that they will not allow this sort of abuse. They have dormant several accounts associated with this matter of infringement of rules. Moreover, he stated that currently they are assessing the process through which they can build their policies much more beneficial. The chief cause behind this goal of improvement of policies is to tackle this type of the terrible situation in the future. It involves spreading out the policies concerning self-harm and private information and supporting the family members of dead people.

SDSU Scientists Perform DNA Sequence at Sea

August 20, 2014 By Kenneth Scott Leave a Comment

Researchers and scientists of San Diego State University (SDSU) have successfully accomplished the sequence of DNA at sea.

Samples are gathered and examined in a laboratory at home. This trip was certainly unusual as stated in the report of KUSI.

According to Science Recorder this group made a trip of three weeks on MV Hanse Explore. During this time period they traveled five  islands. The group modified the ship into a scientific instrument and inserted equipments through the vessel. The DNA sequencer was placed in the laundry room since it was the most secure part of the ship. A thermal cycler was utilized for the expansion of DNA samples for analysis.

Rob Edward, an SDSU computer scientist said that the team had to came across a number of challenges like a longer time for the arrangements of the journey. Eventually, they succeeded in examining the samples in the sea. It makes the journey easier as in earlier voyages they have to wait a lot for the inspection of specimens. Afterwards, they had to look for the answers of the questions which arose during the study. Through this novel method of studying they can find out the answers immediately.

Furthermore, Edward stated that in the beginning people were fearful while providing the team as this journey was planned in the remote areas of the Pacific Ocean.

The study printed in the Journal of PeerJ.
