Twitter stated that it will take off the images and videos of dead people from its social networking website. This action will be taken merely on the request of immediate family member under certain circumstances.
This policy was heralded a week after Zelda Williams, daughter of famous entertainer Williams said that she would quite her twitter account. The girl made this decision since people were sending horrible Photoshpoed images of her dead father on the social networking website.
“Mining our accounts for photos of dad, or judging me on the number of them is cruel and unnecessary,” she wrote on Twitter before departing the social network.
Twitter immediately took action in response by blocking a number of accounts which were sending pictures. Furthermore it said that the company will soon revise its user protection policies.
According to Del Harvey, twitter’s vice president of trust and safety expressed that they will not allow this sort of abuse. They have dormant several accounts associated with this matter of infringement of rules. Moreover, he stated that currently they are assessing the process through which they can build their policies much more beneficial. The chief cause behind this goal of improvement of policies is to tackle this type of the terrible situation in the future. It involves spreading out the policies concerning self-harm and private information and supporting the family members of dead people.
