Evaluation of Nokia’s R2000 Lumia 630

August 12, 2014 By Michael Turner Leave a Comment

Nokia had a bumpy ride with sumptuous Windows phones over the past years, but it jumped up the ladder with its cost effective handsets serving the large group of people relying on budget Smartphone.

Lumia 630 which is emphasizing on enlarging the ongoing market declared its launch at the Windows Phone Mobile event in Sandton.

Nokia is popular for its distinctive handsets, so is Lumia 630.

The phone ahs a plastic case, 1800mAh battery, microSD Bay and SIM Slot. The design is quite satisfying and noticeable with blazing shade of green which is definitely going to capture attention.

Few of the normal features are micro USB Port at the bottom, earphone jack on top and a power button/volume rocker combination on the right.

By analyzing the design one can observe that in order to make this handset a bit economical, Nokia had to slash down one or two corner because the camera button is absent apparently. So it means you can’t go from locked phone to camera by clasping the camera button. You can find camera shortcut in the new Action Center dropdown menu.

Performance:

Featuring 512MBs of RAM and Snapdragon 400 quad-core chip, Lumia 630 is quite appreciable but definitely not the most powerful windows through.

Games and videos are good to be played and displayed properly in spite of the fact that it has 512 MB RAM only because few games require 1GB or more than that.  You will hear a squeaking sound while taking snaps or switching apps or sometime can find a bit slow down while using back or switching app.

Speaking of battery life, moderate usage for a day, but the battery saver utility will serve the purpose by stretching its use for more time.

Camera:

Constrained by the budget, Nokia Lumia 630 can still provide with fair enough shots. Photos taken in ample light are bright and nights shots are good as well even in absence of flash in it.

Pictures won’t be an award-winning quality yet quite satisfying quality to be uploaded on Instagram or Facebook.

Blackphone hacked at DefCon conference

August 12, 2014 By Nancy Young Leave a Comment

At the recent DefCon hacking conference @TeamAndIRC hacked the Blackphone, claimed to be a super secure alternative to standard smartphones. Blackphone is a joint venture between Silent Circle and Geeksphone who created the phone with the primary concern of personal data protection. Rather than having a unique OS, this phone has the Blackphone’s Private OS which is built on top of Android technology which is relatively infamous for being easy to breach. The hack comes not long after Blackphone sparred with Blackberry after the latter called the secure device “unacceptable.” DefCon took place in Las Vegas, from 7 to 10th August, 2014.

Oil Spill and it’s After Affects on Environment.

August 11, 2014 By Roxanne Briean Leave a Comment

It is a very common fact that water and oil do not mix but nobody knows that when petroleum is spill into a water surface, then some amount of oil immediately get dissolved in water and the rest of it disappears into the air. This oil can have a really bad effect on the environment and the surroundings of the sea. The quantity of oil which evaporated in the air can induce an extreme type of aviation pollution, whereas, the water dissolved amount of oil can be hazardous for aquatic creatures.

An experiment performed in North Sea give some significant clues that can assist in the formation of measures of tackling these kinds of calamity. The conclusion of this study is published inEnvironmental Science and Technology. In this report they recognized the immediate reaction of oil spillage in the environment. It is primarily focused on the first 24 hours after the incident and how water acts in response to this new environment. Shortly after the spill water changes its composition and transform itself in a completely new element.

According to Samuel Arey,  a researcher at EPFL and Eawag in Switzerland and author of the study, most of this transformation of oil begins on the inaugural day of the disaster. The Majority of the unstable compounds mixes with the air and  starts the process of air pollution. On the other, the remaining poisonous substances like naphthalene dissolve into the sea water and creates a real jeopardy for the all the aquatic ecosystems.

The researchers also worked with the emergency response specialist to make a fake incident of oil spill in water. This false experiment provides a fuller apprehension of what happens when this type of huge events happens.

Siri on Macbook – Apple’s next plan

August 11, 2014 By Deborah Campbell Leave a Comment

This fall Apple has planned to release Siri, which is Apple’s famous voice assistant in its Macbook.  The rumors are supported after the patent application for desktop version of Siri was released by United State and Trademark Office.

Siri was first founded in 2011 on the iPhone 4S and instantly gets popularity. Since then apple was struggling hard to utilize this voice assistant in a better way.  The company wants it to be available for its entire customers.

This recent patent named as “ Intelligent Digital Assistant”  explains the usage of Siri in Macbook. This application can be ensconced at the background and can be effortlessly set in motion through a gesture or voice.

Siri will work exactly like an iOS because it will contain several interaction capabilities and it can also perform the task of question and answer. The best thing about it is that it would have a  cursor position through which it will indicate the procedure of managing the commands of users.

It will play the role of your assistant in the Macbook since it can easily organize your things in a file or folder. It would not be any trouble for users to work in the forefront while working on the background applications.

Find your lost Android Gadget with a call

August 11, 2014 By Deborah Campbell Leave a Comment

No need to worry about your lost android cell phone any longer. Recently, Google has launched a new update for its Android service manager. This feature works along with all the former characteristics of locating a missing cell phone.

Through this device your lost phone will call you as soon as someone just puts a finger on its screen. A message along with your phone number will pop up instantly on the concealment of the cell phone. You can compose anything for that phone finder in that message. You can request him to give you a call or you can offer him some kind of reward.

With the assistance of this function the person would be able to contact you. At that time that person will only perform two tasks, to enter the pass code or to make a call to you. You just have to wait till the person or thief calls you even by mistake. After that you can beg him or request him to give you back your cellphone. Never write your own cell phone number in this option since it would remove the chief purpose of this feature.

In a new Android cell phone this service is already activated, only if you own and old cell phone then you have to specify the option.

This will certainly make it easier for decent people who find cell phone and really want to return it back but do not have an idea who is the appropriate person to call from the entire list of contacts.

Comet gliding on a rocket

August 10, 2014 By Deborah Campbell Leave a Comment

Here comes to capture your attention with its name very less used when it comes to the research and study of our Universe. Sun, Moon and various planets cover most of the news but the recent news on comet will definitely make you think about it for once. We never think that about those smaller objects like asteroids and comets which an eminent part of our solar system is. The reason being very little changes has been observed since last 4.5 billion years or more than that.

The mission of European Space Agency’s Rosetta spacecraft was to delve deep inside to study about it. The probe set into orbit around Comet 67P/Churyumov –Gerasimenko this week. Now this study will be an exclusive and interesting one as a long term study of comets has yet not taken place before which will include accumulating sample of surface material.

We have always read articles and news: band of light covering the sky which is so instantaneous, vanishing in a moment. At the same time we have read lots about eclipses and their patters. But comets always less heard in the news or study. They were even considered unlucky or related with some unlucky incidents in old days.

But with the advancement in science and technology and a strong panel of research teams, we now know that there are comets which are not one time visible, they do occur more than once like the famous Halley ’s Comet . It certainly means now comets have become an important part of study like other planets, asteroids and astronomical bodies.

Comets are relatively smaller in size and very minute for close observation. It took 10 years for Rosetta to get launched, since comets 67P’s gravity is too less to keep Rosetta in Orbit. After prolonged research it has been found that Rosetta can now stay for 10 years in the orbit hence capable of explaining many things happening on the comet’s surface.

Apple Hinted SIRI on Mac

August 9, 2014 By Roxanne Briean Leave a Comment

Apple Insider revealed, Apple has registered a comprehensive application that explains a Siri like Desktop that can function on the voice recognition quality or simply can execute on speech command. It means that all the voice or text could be easily converted into required function. This Desktop Siri will understand context based commands.

Well, it’s not new that the desktops don’t support voice command application but it has been a third party application on Linux and Windows operating systems till now. If apple extends Siri to Mac, then it will be the first discovery of an operating system already having a voice assistant without the aid of any third party application. Apple has been striving to develop Siri to the extent that it can understand any accents and commands, so it can be expected to perform well after reaching the Mac OS.

Someone could easily see the great functionality of this feature of voice recognition commands especially for the people who can’t use their hands for typing or are unable to use the mouse. Though wonderful feature it is , there are certain tasks which still requires hands to be operated like editing photos, editing videos. Other useful tasks Siri can do is to duplicate or combine the file with another file, organize, sort file in a particular folder.  A user can ask for a new setting in his email or can put on hold on some files which are supposed to be treated for later use. One of the other features includes multi tasking which means till now we could open different applications but working on it simultaneously was not possible but with voice command someone can do the task in one app while commanding the other app to perform the other one.

Apple already threw the news of launching latest version of Mac OS- OS X Yosemite in WWDC this year. There are chances that Apple might stands out this voice assistant in upcoming version or may declare its launching in the final version of OS X Yosemite.

Dragon Fish provides significant information related to evolution.

August 9, 2014 By Michael Turner Leave a Comment

The dragon fish provides information to the researcher about the process which compels fish to move onto dry land.  Dragon fish is quite different from the other ones since it can stay alive without water.

The researchers observed that when the fish changes remarkably when it begins to live out of water. The fish reared out of water demonstrated alterations in their bones and muscles which are responsible for the movement.

The experts performed this research for a time period of eight months. Hans Larsson of McGill University’s Redpath Museum stated that the chief purpose of this experiment was to discover the physical changes in Dragon fish which lives outside the water. Experts wanted to expose this cryptic deviation by compelling them to live without water.

The fish which survived on dry land changed itself into quadruped vertebrates nearly 400 million years ago.  Experts believe dragon fish to be a living illustration of phenomena generally known as developmental plasticity. The theory states that a creature’s structure can be changed through environmental conditions and sometimes these changes are into the genesis of that animal.

The experiment went as it was expected that the Dragon fish raised outside of the water was very alike when it came out. Subsequently, research stored it in a tank which only contained 1mm of water on its surface.

After the long time of eight months this fish was compared to the ones which was living inside the water. The fish raised outside the water experienced several changes such as being more skilful at walking, always placed their pectoral fins near to the center of their bodies.

Researchers are intended to perform some more experiment on this species in the future like assessing the force of the fishes, comparing them with fossil records etc.

This study is printed in the Journal Nature.
