After striking a new deal with the payment processor, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. will get atleast $9.4 billion from future value of its finance affiliate. If Alipay or its parent company seek an initial public offering, China’s biggest e-commerce operator will be entitled to the payment. Alibaba also gets the perpetual right to 37.5 percent of the finance arm’s pretax earnings and can buy a stake of about one-third if regulators approve. Since billionare founder Jack Ma spun off Alipay into a Chinese company in 2011, their relationship with the finance business has been contentious. Alibaba may be headed towards the largest IPO in history, the deal locks in a share of earnings from the payments unit, which has expanded into money markets and controls more than 574 billion yuan of funds. Alibaba_Chinese_logo According to Wang Weidong, an analyst at Shanghai based Internet consultant firm IResearch, ”The financial unit is adding more services and becoming bigger in scale and complete in services.” According to what was said in the US regulatory filing, the new deal will transfer Hangzhou based Alibaba’s small business lending arm to Zhejiang Ant Small & Micro Financial Services Group Co. who is the parent of Alipay, for $518 million in cash and annual fees for seven years. The implications of the sale are that financial service assets will be owned by Chinese nationals instead of global investors that may buy shares in the IPO. Yahoo gave a statement saying that the terms outline in yesterday’s filing were negotiated through collaboration and that it supported the agreement. Softbank Corp. led by Masayoshi Son who owns more than 30 percent of Alibaba seems to think the deal is beneficial for both parties.

August 11, 2014 By Deborah Campbell Leave a Comment

Find your lost Android Gadget with a call

August 11, 2014 By Deborah Campbell Leave a Comment

No need to worry about your lost android cell phone any longer. Recently, Google has launched a new update for its Android service manager. This feature works along with all the former characteristics of locating a missing cell phone.

Through this device your lost phone will call you as soon as someone just puts a finger on its screen. A message along with your phone number will pop up instantly on the concealment of the cell phone. You can compose anything for that phone finder in that message. You can request him to give you a call or you can offer him some kind of reward.

With the assistance of this function the person would be able to contact you. At that time that person will only perform two tasks, to enter the pass code or to make a call to you. You just have to wait till the person or thief calls you even by mistake. After that you can beg him or request him to give you back your cellphone. Never write your own cell phone number in this option since it would remove the chief purpose of this feature.

In a new Android cell phone this service is already activated, only if you own and old cell phone then you have to specify the option.

This will certainly make it easier for decent people who find cell phone and really want to return it back but do not have an idea who is the appropriate person to call from the entire list of contacts.

Comet gliding on a rocket

August 10, 2014 By Deborah Campbell Leave a Comment

Here comes to capture your attention with its name very less used when it comes to the research and study of our Universe. Sun, Moon and various planets cover most of the news but the recent news on comet will definitely make you think about it for once. We never think that about those smaller objects like asteroids and comets which an eminent part of our solar system is. The reason being very little changes has been observed since last 4.5 billion years or more than that.

The mission of European Space Agency’s Rosetta spacecraft was to delve deep inside to study about it. The probe set into orbit around Comet 67P/Churyumov –Gerasimenko this week. Now this study will be an exclusive and interesting one as a long term study of comets has yet not taken place before which will include accumulating sample of surface material.

We have always read articles and news: band of light covering the sky which is so instantaneous, vanishing in a moment. At the same time we have read lots about eclipses and their patters. But comets always less heard in the news or study. They were even considered unlucky or related with some unlucky incidents in old days.

But with the advancement in science and technology and a strong panel of research teams, we now know that there are comets which are not one time visible, they do occur more than once like the famous Halley ’s Comet . It certainly means now comets have become an important part of study like other planets, asteroids and astronomical bodies.

Comets are relatively smaller in size and very minute for close observation. It took 10 years for Rosetta to get launched, since comets 67P’s gravity is too less to keep Rosetta in Orbit. After prolonged research it has been found that Rosetta can now stay for 10 years in the orbit hence capable of explaining many things happening on the comet’s surface.

Motorola’s Moto 360 Smartwatch Soon To Be Released?

August 9, 2014 By Deborah Campbell Leave a Comment

Motrola’s Moto 360 smartwatch is one of the most preferred products of the year 2014. The most appreciable thing about this smart watch is its round face, which usually people expect with a watch. It has an extremely fine appearance which is quite appealing.

Nonetheless, the company made a terrible mistake with its tactics since the product is not alone. Motrola launched this product at the start of the year by offering  glimpses of the product. Moto 360 remained in the power of the wearable market even before it is released. The G Watch of LG and Galaxy Gear live of Sony launched at the same time at the Google I/O developer conference

Customers were still anticipating for the Moto 360 despite the fact that they had Android Wear available in the market. If the company has introduced this watch at the Google I/O  developer conference, then certainly the result would have been really different. It would have gained more popularity than LG and Samsung smart watches.

However, the company is now all geared up for the launch of Moto 360 on the 4th of September. The prospect of the success of this watch is a bit low now since the market is quite full of wearables.

G Watch R of LG will unleash on the same week and it also possesses a round face like Moto 360.  The appearance of this device has a similar intensity of  attractions like Moto 360. The smartwatches of LG functions just like Andoid wear of Motrola. Therefore, now everything depends on the price and looks of the two products.

Encryption is safer than payment card chips

August 9, 2014 By Deborah Campbell Leave a Comment

Following high profile breaches at large retailers and restaurant chains in the past 12 months there is a push in the US to move to chip-equipped payment cards. For the past 10 years or so, the EMV payment system (Europay, Mastercard, Visa) is the de facto payment system in Europe and is also widely used around the world.

In order to push wide spread EMV use in the US, the cards brands will shift liability in October 2015, any parties that haven’t deployed the system will be held liable in the case of fraudulent transactions.

A security engineering professor at Cambridge University with 25 years experience in payment systems security, Ross Anderson points out that EMV specification suffers from regulatory and security issues some of which have been exploited in real-world attacks. On Thursday, at the Blackhat security conference in Las Vegas, Anderson suggested two types of attacks possible agains EMV implementations. He suggests that Banks have tried to label these as impractical or too complex for for cyber-criminals to carry out. The two examples are”preplay” and “no PIN”.
The sophisticated EMV attacks that Anderson warns against are not usually used by criminals since its much easier to abuse the EMV today because the countries in which the system is not deployed the current system is also designed to work with payment terminals and ATMs. However, with the authorities pushing to deploy EMV, these attacks are a real possibility.

In light of the better consumer protection offered in the US, compared to Europe, it will be interesting to see if banks in the US will try to shift liability to consumers for PIN authorized EMV transactions. He further explained that EMV specification in the present day is quite complex and thus mistakes can be made in its implementation, he suggested that it is not necessary that transactions will be safer using EMV, you can make a good or a bad system using EMV depending on how much attention you pay.

Zaichkowsky suggests that one technology that has a better chance in preventing attackers is end-to-end encryption from the card reader to the payment processor’s back end systems. Similar suggestions have been made by other security experts for years, but adoption is slow since it requires POS terminals with new ones that support the new technology. Zaichkowsky says that since now in the US many will have to change their terminals to support EMV, it would be better to choose terminals that offer data encryption at the reader.

Rosetta’s amazing journey

August 9, 2014 By Deborah Campbell Leave a Comment

Rosetta took a ten year journey from its launch pad to the comet 67P. It covered vast distances which took the spacecraft by planets and asteroids. Its fascinating to imagine that in this time, Rosetta passed Earth three times and Mars once. This was obviously calculated and planned by the experts, so that the spacecraft could receive gravitational boosts in its speeds as it passed the planets, otherwise the spacecraft was too heavy to be dispatched to the Comet directly.

The spacecraft was launched from French Guiana on March 2, 2004, through a powerful European built Ariane 5 rocket. The mission planners had devised a path for Rosetta to fly by earth in March 2005 then by Mars in February 2007. The aircraft was also put into hibernation in June 2011 to conserve power. It was aroused from its sleep in January to equip itself for its arrival on August 6th.

This mission is perhaps one of the most complex and fascinating missions in space exploration history and it is hoped that it will reveal many unsolved mysteries regarding life on earth, possible life on other planets and shed some more light on the nature of comets and unexplained phenomenon associated with them.

Significant Increase in online shoppers

August 8, 2014 By Deborah Campbell Leave a Comment

The growth in online shopping demonstrates the impact of the  digital economy on our routine lives. Lately, a survey has recorded that three quarters of Britons shop through cyberspace. This three quarters Britons are almost 76 percent of the entire population, which means 38 million people.

In 2006 a study by the Office of National Statistics showed that a sum of 2 million people goes online daily for shopping. Whereas in 2008 the proportion was almost 54 percent, but this time the ratio of  the masses has increased remarkably.

The major reason behind this escalation in the figure is the increase in the usage of internet in our daily lives which has altered the habits of customers. Nowadays, the internet plays a vital role in every aspect of life, whether its news, movies, games, banking etc.
