Yellowstone Volcano can create a massive destruction.

September 1, 2014 By Kenneth Scott Leave a Comment

Recently, a study has demonstrated that a volcano which is present beneath the Yellowstone National Park will take time in eruption. This area has already seen three major volcano eruption which happened a long time ago. The first eruption occurred around 2.1 million years ago, the second one 3.1 million years ago and the third one at 64000 years ago.

Researchers made this serious news along with an extremely distressing news that whenever this volcano blaze will explode its  ash will wrap the whole United States. It will coat cities as fas as NewYork, Los Angeles and Miami in Ash.

A super eruption is the highest category of volcanic eruption. This kind of massive incident involves the expulsion of material till 240 cubic miles. Therefore, scientist believe that this Yellowstone volcano can cause a super eruption.

People will certainly begin to worry shortly after this study, but lets make it more apparent. Currently, there are no signs that anything like this will happen soon. Usually scientist come up with theories and later on says that the previous speculation was incorrect.

Larry Mastin, the main author of this study expressed that nobody has ever seen any eruption like yellow stone. However, if it occurs, then it would be of much higher intensity as compared to several eruptions people have observed up till today.

Mastin is a geologist who works in the United States Geological Survey and is the one who assisted the researchers in the design. Researchers and Mastin developed a new Ash3D model and utilized it to locate any sort of movement of volcanic eruption. Moreover, it will facilitate the researchers to determine the chaos and destruction it could produce.

Furthermore, the Ash3D model illustrates that this Yellowstone volcano will cover the most Rocky Mountains with a meter long. It will spread out till the West and East coasts of the United States.

The intensity of  Yellowstone’s eruption would be equivalent to the explosion of  Alaska pale.

As per the prediction of scientist, there are very few chances that anything like this happens.

Zocalo: Amazon’s Newly Introduced File Sharing Service

September 1, 2014 By Kenneth Scott Leave a Comment

zocalo service by Amazon, will let you store documents and share services designed for enterprise now.

It launched its limited preview in the previous month. The costing for the same is $5 per month; end user can get 200 GB of storage. User can comment on files, send them to other users for assessment, upload new versions and more and that too with any platform/device whether it’s a PC, Macs, Android or iOS.

Amazon zocalo provides IT administrators to incorporate with existing corporate directories, audit logs. IT can execute the appropriate permissions for users, assuring the accessibility of specific files they are meant to see.

Amazon announced a 30-day free trial and this service is open to all AWS customers. zocalo’s goal is to reach the maximum big enterprise crowd, among which few of them still paying for legacy, on-premise solutions. zocalo is a potential competitor of cloud storage Dropbox which recently announced reduction in pricing and storage increment for its Pro customers. Even Dropbox is a competitor of other cloud storage services like Google Drive and Box.

But this is not the first cloud storage service introduced by Amazon; it has already made its marketplace previously with Amazon Cloud Drive which is a Google Drive competitor which is highly productive when integrated with the company’s own Fire phone (which is a big advantage). Fire phone users get unlimited photo storage for their smartphone photos in Cloud Drive.

zocalo also includes AWS Cloud Trails which is basically a web service tracking AWS API calls and sends log files to you. CloudTrail will track all the calls made with zocalo API, which is by default internal but there is a probability that it will be made public in near future declared by Amazon.

Iceland proclaims Volcano Eruption area safe for Air Travel.

August 31, 2014 By Kenneth Scott Leave a Comment

The volcano eruption that began on Friday had stopped now. The eruption compelled Icelandic Meteorological office to move its warning level to red.

Today, Icelandic Meteorological office concluded that the eruption is no more hazardous for any flight, whether its of low range or high.

National Crisis Coordination Centre stated that crack that started at midnight at Holuhraun lava north of Vatnajokull glacier came to an end at nearly 0400 UTC (GMT). The fissure has been approximately  600 meters long and is located 5 Km north of the Dyngjujokull glacier in a north Vatnajokull glacier.

Although the seismic activity will persist in that region

Iceland’s largest volcanic system cuts a 190-km (120-mile) long and up to 25-km (15 mile) wide path athwart the North Atlantic Island. The volcanic system has been struck by thousands of earthquakes since last two weeks. Consequently, scientists were already  red alert for the fear of any outbreak.

Reykjavik’s Met Office stated that the eruption wrapped few parts of the Bardabunga system. However, there were no mark of ashes like that from the Eyjafjallajokull eruption which occurred in 2010.

Though the menaces of an ash cloud are high in case any of the sub glacier also erupts.  Iceland authorities for some hours changed the aviation warning level to red which is conceived as the highest on the scale.

Martin Hensch,  a Met office seismologist informed that the eruption was at the top of a magma dyke 40 km from the main Bardarbunga crater.

According to Nick Petford, a vulcanology expert at the University of Northampton usually the fissure eruptions are massive and die in a span of days. Nevertheless, there could be an exceptional case.

Antarctica bacteria, a sign of new life

August 21, 2014 By Kenneth Scott Leave a Comment

Polar researcher have unveiled about an ancient group of bacteria which generally develops in dark.  They arise in a salty atmosphere which is approximately 70 feet under the ice of Antarctic lake.  This study provides an insight about the unique ecosystem.

National Science Foundation and NASA provided funds for this research. The study turned out extremely beneficial since it provided some major hints on the subject of biochemical processes. The study was primarily focused on the processes takes place without sunlight, carbon dioxide or photosynthesis. Moreover, it describes the possibility of life in salty, cryogenic environments outside of the Earth.  These ecosystems are normally nourished by the sunlight.

The report is printed in this week’s issue of  Proceedings of the National Academy of Science. This study is executed through the struggle of polar researchers from different institutions like University of Illinois, Montana State University and many more.

The bacterial life is originated due to the chemical reactions since the Lake Vida is typically frozen. The condition of Lake Vida resembles a lot to the environment of Mars  The scientist believe that these conditions should also be found somewhere else in the solar system. This discovery established a novel framework for the assessment of of the extraterrestrial life.

Earlier, the experts examined Like Vida in 2005 and 2010 but at that time they resolved that the ice layers are split into two due to sunlight.

SDSU Scientists Perform DNA Sequence at Sea

August 20, 2014 By Kenneth Scott Leave a Comment

Researchers and scientists of San Diego State University (SDSU) have successfully accomplished the sequence of DNA at sea.

Samples are gathered and examined in a laboratory at home. This trip was certainly unusual as stated in the report of KUSI.

According to Science Recorder this group made a trip of three weeks on MV Hanse Explore. During this time period they traveled five  islands. The group modified the ship into a scientific instrument and inserted equipments through the vessel. The DNA sequencer was placed in the laundry room since it was the most secure part of the ship. A thermal cycler was utilized for the expansion of DNA samples for analysis.

Rob Edward, an SDSU computer scientist said that the team had to came across a number of challenges like a longer time for the arrangements of the journey. Eventually, they succeeded in examining the samples in the sea. It makes the journey easier as in earlier voyages they have to wait a lot for the inspection of specimens. Afterwards, they had to look for the answers of the questions which arose during the study. Through this novel method of studying they can find out the answers immediately.

Furthermore, Edward stated that in the beginning people were fearful while providing the team as this journey was planned in the remote areas of the Pacific Ocean.

A cure for Alopecia Areata?

August 18, 2014 By Kenneth Scott Leave a Comment

A new drug has been found which restored the hair of three patients within five months. Scientists think they may have discovered a cure for the autoimmune disease alopecia areata.

Alopecia areata is particularly identified with bald patches rather than complete baldness. Researchers at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) identified the immune cells responsible for destroying hair follicles in people with alopecia areata. Initial results were reported from an ongoing clinical trial of an FDA approved drug which has produced complete re-growth of hair in patients with moderate to severe alopecia areata: Three participants experienced total regrowth withing five month of the start of the treatment.

jakinhibitor

“We’ve only begun testing the drug in patients, but if the drug continues to be successful and safe, it will have a dramatic positive impact on the lives of people with this disease,” said Raphael Clynes, who led the research, along with Angela M Christiano, professor in the Departments of Dermatology and of Genetics and Development at CUMC. The disease can occur at any age and affects men and women equally. Hair loss in alopecia areata occurs when cells from the immune system confuse the hair follicles as foreign bodies and starts attacking them . This causes the hair in that region to fall off and enter a dormant state. Initially, in the study mice were used. The study suggests that a danger signal in the hair follicles of patients attracts the immune cells to the follicle and fuels an attack. The study used the mice to trace the danger signal backwards to identify the T-cells responsible for attacking the follicles. Further investigation revealed how the T-cells were instructed to attack and identified a pathway that the new class of drug called, JAK inhibitors could target. The two JAK inhibitors tested by the researchers were ruxolitinib and tofacitnib. These drugs blocked these pathways and managed to stop the attack on the hair follicles.

These effects seem to be quite promising, for a disease which could be devastating, especially for young people. If the drugs work and have no problematic short term or long term side effects, this seems to be a great breakthrough in drug therapy. Not just because of the apparent recovery, but also because of the identification of the pathways with which the disease is linked, this may shed some further light on the etiology of the disease in general.
