The pharmaceutical company, Merck has created a new drug known as, Zonitivity, that can be used to diminish and reduce the chances and risks of stroke or cardiovascular death. But it is not recommended in patients who have a history of stroke or a traumatic head injury.
The FDA has recently given the company a go ahead for the new drug, Zontivity, which inhibits blood clots. It is a protease-activated receptor-1 (PAR-1) antagonist.
Produced by the American pharmaceutical manufacturer, Merch & Co., the new medication has the ability to reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes. It will be available shortly at all major retail pharmaceutical stores by name Zontivity.
Ellis Unger, the director of FDA’s Office of Drug Evaluation I, said, “In patients who have had a heart attack or who have peripheral arterial disease, this drug will lower the risk of heart attack, stroke and cardiovascular death.”

In patients with cardiovascular disease and arterial disease can take Zontivity to reduce their chances of stroke. However, when the new drug is compared with other blood-clot inhibitors in the market, Zontivity too, increases the risk of bleeding in patients by hindering platelets in the blood from clustering together. Due to these reasons, the FDA does not recommend Zontivity in patients who have suffered from a stroke or traumatic head injury, once in their life.
The approval of Zontivity has been reportedly delayed over safety concerns in patients suffering from other diseases, due to the fatal bleeding in some of the patients who were given Merck’s new medication during the clinical trials.
Zontivity will be a miracle drug for heart patients and will prevent myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiovascular death in high-risk patients. It will improve the blood flow in patients who have had a attack or suffered from artery blockages.
