Philippine Scientists Discover New Species of Metal-Munching Plant that is capable of absorbing metal without dying or poisoning itself. This plant came out of a species named Rinorea niccolifera, according to the scientist, this species can be used for the purpose of cleaning the soil that have been polluted through metal harvesting. There are 300,000 known species of plants on earth capable of absorbing large amount of metal through roots; they are called vascular plants and one out of 450 known species of hyper accumulator plants. The author of the study and researcher of this plant is Professor Edwino from the University of Philippines.

According to Professor Fernando the Rinorea Niccolifera’s leaves can take in more than 18,000 parts of nickel of n per million this rate is a thousand times more than what any other known plant species can absorb while being safe, beside this plant can also be harvested for the metal it takes in by absorbing.
Rinorea Niccolifera believes that he can remove heavy amount of metal that is hazardous to the echo system with the help of these plant. This plant can also be useful for people and can play significant role for those who work in mining industry. During a press conference the researchers said that, there is an area in the western part of Luzon Island in the Philippines there they found this species. This area is well known for the nature of its soil, that it contains heavy amount of metal. This plant has earned relevant environmental credentials while being an interesting and helpful new scientific discovery.
