The calendar for five expected super moons has been declared at the start of the New Year. The very first super moon of the year sighted on the 1st day of January 2014. After which the next expected dates of the year were declared to be January 30, July 12, August 10 and September 9.Full-Moon
So the question is what is a super moon? A Super moon occurs when the moon is so close to the earth that it becomes parallel to the full moon. From layman’s eye there might not be a major difference but once the moon and earth becomes parallel the size of the moon increases making it brighter and bigger in size. It was previously named as Perigee which literally meant closer to the earth.
According to the statement of Dr. James Garvin, chief scientist at NASA’s Goddard space flight center, “the moon gets bigger in size but there is only a few percent difference in distance at the time of occurrence.” This is termed as full moon because of its alignment with earth, the super in super moons is all about its size.
According to the calculated statistics, the size of the moon gets larger by 14% and 30% brighter to the eyes. On an average the super moon occurs 5 to 6 times a year and this year the super moon which will be closest to earth will occur on 10th August.
The occurrence of these super moons are tabooed to bring natural calamities and disasters such as higher tides and tidal shocks.
According to the dates, today i.e. 12th of July, people can also experience the full moon with good weather conditions, it can be viewed clearly so grab your cameras and look up in the sky for the beautiful super moon.
