Science has proved that bats utilize polarization of the sun set to familiarize their internal magnetic compasses before they go out to prey in the dark. Birds are famous to make use of polarized light of the sky to adjust their compass mechanism. Several other animals that have orient mechanism use the arrangement of stars, potency and productivity of Earth’s magnet field.
The above research has published in Nature communication. This mechanism of birds is only active till the distance of 165 feet. They use their vision sense to find direction longer than 165 feet.
This process of polarization is very powerful at the time of sun rise and sun set. The one end of this light point towards north and the second end point to the south.
Researchers performed an experiment with the help of 70 female bats. They took them from their home cave and permitted them to watch the sunset from their experimental boxes. All those boxes were fitted with different light filters. Then when the bats were set free, 90% headed home whereas, the other 10 percent flew to somewhere else.
Through this research it can be concluded that polarization rays of sun provide more useful things to bats than the sun’s position in the sky.
