Members of Islamic State militants begin to use a new social networking website named Diaspora. Following the prohibition of the most popular social media service generally known as Twitter.
The Diaspora is a bit difficult site in terms of check and control.
As remarked by a blog spot on Diaspora that members of the Islamic State have created accounts on diaspora in order to promote the activities of their groups. Previously they utilized the services of Twitter and other platforms, but nowadays they have shifted to a free and open source software..
Unlike several other social networking websites Diaspora has no inner server. The entire network is grounded on numerous small servers which are accountable to control the content on respective sites. People can freely use this service since the website is an open-source initiative. Even the management team of this site is unable to remove any unethical content from the “pod”
That signifies that the administration is merely running the site, but it cannot apply any pressure on the users. According to a statement of that blog post the management considers it to be the chief reason due to which IS activist chose this network.
Moreover, team of Diaspora highlighted that it does not want to see IS content on its servers. In this way the team gave an indirect message to the IS individuals to remove its content immediately. They also accepted the fact that due to the open source nature, they cannot compel the activist to do this.
